Pec-Argyle 2nd at Black Hawk Invite
WarBirds take third by .5 points; Krahenbuhl, Orloff, Ubersox win weight classes

SOUTH WAYNE — Epworth-West Dubuque took the team title at the annual Black Hawk Invitational Dec. 1 with 301 points. Pecatonica-Argyle (152) was second, while Darlington-Black Hawk (134) narrowly beat Cuba City-Benton-Southwestern by a half of a point for third in the 12-team meet.

Brodhead-Juda (72) was 10th and Sugar River (54) was 11th.

Cashton Hauser of the WarBirds finished 4-1 at 106 and took home fifth. At 113 pounds, DBH sophomore Aidan McGuire was 2-2 and finished fourth.

In the 120-pound weight class, Pecatonica-Argyle’s Noah Krahenbuhl went unbeaten with a pair of pins to take first place. Sugar River’s Joe Quaglia went 3-1 on the day and defeated Brodhead-Juda’s Russell Waeffler in the third-place match on a 5-1 decision.

Kristian Orloff of Pec-Argyle won the 126-pound weight class, winning all four matches by pin fall. 

At 132, Pec-Argyle’s Dakota Doescher took fourth, going 2-2. Brodhead-Juda’s Theodore Policastro took fifth place.

Jayson Starr of Brodhead-Juda was third in the 138 division, topping Pec-Argyle’s Chevy Hughes by pin in the final match.

At 145, DBH senior Kolbe Ubersox went unbeaten with four pins to take the crown. Teammate Brady Horne was 4-1 and finished fifth. Pec-Argyle’s Lane Busser was fourth. 

Brodhead-Juda senior Jackson Hauri took second in the 152-pound class, losing 6-1 in the championship to West Dubuque’s Elijah Demmer. Pec-Argyle’s Easton Schraepfer defeated Sugar River’s Robert Chenoweth 6-2 in overtime of the third-place match.

Hunter Bredeson of DBH pinned teammate Connor Novak in the third-place match at 160. The WarBirds’ Cayden Milz also took third, defeating Cuba City-Benton-Southwestern’s Bradley Goffinet 7-4 in the 170 bracket. Carson Lobdell of DBH was third in the 182 class.

At 220, Pec-Argyle’s Lucas Gilbertson was second, losing to West Dubuque’s Parker Schmitt in the championship 16-12.

Leif Bredeson of DBH was fifth in the heavyweight bracket, knocking off Sugar River’s Daniel Enlow by pin fall in the final round.


Nov. 29 dual: Pec-Argyle 60, Sugar River 15

NEW GLARUS — The Vikings picked up 18 points thanks to forfeits and defeated the Raiders in the season-opening dual Nov. 29.

Noah Krahenbuhl outwrestled Joe Quaglia 5-1 to put Pec-Argyle on the board in the first match at 120 pounds. Christian Orloff (126) then pinned Matthew Loshaw in 1:15 to make it 9-0, and Viking teammates Dakota Doescher (132) then pinned Avery Lettman and Cade Femrite in back-to-back matches to make it 21-0.

Rudy Wicker put Sugar River on the board at 145 with an 8-6 win over Lane Busser. Robert Chenoweth (152) then pinned Griffin Gordon to bring the score closer at 21-9.

But the Vikings then rattled off five straight victories to seal the match. Easton Schraepfer (160) won a 7-2 decision over Sugar River’s Jack Diedrich, then Dalton Turner (170) pinned Justin Knoebl. Zander Brunker was awarded six points for a forfeit at 182, followed by Tate Hirsch’s pin of Lance Varney at 195, and Lucas Gilbertson’s pin of Chase Messner at 220.

The final three matches were forfeits — two going in the favor of Pec-Argyle, and one to Sugar River.

Both teams have separate duals slated for Dec. 6, with Sugar River hosting Madison West and Pec-Argyle welcoming Belmont-Platteville. Sugar River then hosts an invitational Dec. 8 at New Glarus.
