ARGYLE — The Orioles knocked off Brodhead-Juda 8-4 in a nonconference game May 20.
Argyle scored six runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. The Cardinals scored one run in the second and added three more in the top of the fifth to get within three, but the Orioles plated an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Miken Godfrey pitched three innings for Argyle, allowing an unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out six. Mitchell Flannery allowed three runs — one earned — on three hits and a walk in two innings, and Gavin Johnson pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh for Argyle, allowing just one hit while striking out four.
Gavin Kammerer took the loss on the mound for Brodhead, allowing six earned runs to score on three hits, two walks and three hit batters in just 2/3 of an inning. Marco Bueno tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief with two Ks, and Quinton Kammerer and Conner Green each allowed a run and struck out two in two innings each.
At the dish, Mason Waage was 3 for 4 for Argyle, while Gavin Johnson and BJ Penniston each had two hits. Penniston drove in three runs.
Barneveld 15, Monticello-Albany 6
MONTICELLO — The Ponies gave up four runs in the top of the first inning but responded with a 4-run frame of their own to tie it back up of their game May 20.
The tie didn’t last long, as Barneveld scored six in the second and added four more in the fourth to roll in the final Six Rivers East matchup between the two schools in the regular season this year.
Josh Dahl and Kollin Klitzke each had two hits for the Ponies, with Klitzke driving in three runs.
Cole Femritte gave up four runs — just one earned — in 2/3 of an inning on five walks and a hit. Klitzke entered to finish off the first but was tagged for six runs — again with just one earned — on five walks and a hit in a full inning of work. Trayden Foster, Corbin Kelly and Tyler Anderson all relieved for Monticello-Albany.
Belleville 8, New Glarus 4
NEW GLARUS — The rivalry between the Wildcats and the Knights continued May 20, with Capitol South champion Belleville scoring a win thanks to a 4-run first inning.
The Glarner Knights tried to work their way back into the game, getting as close as 5-3 after the fourth, but couldn’t pull off the comeback.
Ben Melvin, Nathan Streiff and Carter Siegenthaler each had two hits for New Glarus. Peyton Mendleski tossed the first three innings, giving p five earned runs on five hits and two walks with a hit by pitch. Eli Zimmerman tossed three innings of relief, allowing three walks and two hits with three runs. Holden Latsch pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
