NGM reigns at Platteville Invite
Berget, Scholey small-school individual champions; NGM, Darlington girls remain ranked; Albany boys make strong showing

PLATTEVILLE — The New Glarus-Monticello girls cross country team continues to outrun its competition, most recently finishing first in the small-school division of the Dick McKichan Platteville Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The Knights, ranked No. 6 in Division 2, has won their last four meets. Molly Olson paced NGM finishing fourth in the small school-division and tenth overall. 

Darlington girls, ranked No. 2 in Division 3, were just nine points behind NGM. Adalee Berget was the small-school champion and second overall behind Dodgeville-Mineral Point’s Ellie Robinson. 

Brodhead-Juda’s Kalena Riemer, NGM’s Melanie Fink and Lily Maynard, and Albany’s Ava Ahnen were among other local runners in the top 10 small division.

Belleville’s Carter Scholey nearly broke 16 minutes in his overall first-place finish, beating out Spencer Alf of McFarland by nine seconds. As a whole, the Wildcats finished fourth of 14 teams.

Tre Dammen finished seventh overall and fifth in the large-school division to pace Monroe, which dropped out of the Division 2 boys rankings for the first time since Sept. 4. The Hounds took second behind Dodgeville Mineral Point, which is ranked No. 6 in Division 2.

Albany took home the boys small-school title, led by Brayden Bakken. The senior finished fifth overall with a sub-18-minute time.

Brodhead-Juda’s Nathan Engen and Albany’s Kaleb Broughton were among other local runners in the top 10 small division.
