WATERLOO — Down to its final outs in the top of the seventh, New Glarus scored four runs en route to a 6-3 comeback win over Waterloo in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal May 29. 

The Glarner Knights tallied three straight hits in the seventh, including a leadoff double by Ashlin Mihlbauer. Landon Stelter knotted the game at three with an RBI single, and Leyton Mihlbauer scored what proved to be the winning run on an error. Designated hitter Zander Hauser added on two insurance runs with a two RBI double to left.

Patrick Alt and Leyton Mihlbauer faced two batters each in the seventh to seal the win. Starter Alt threw 6 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Hauser and Stelter had big days at the plate, tallying two hits and two RBIs each. Ashlin Mihlbauer and Matt Roth also recorded multiple-hit games. 

With the victory, 5-seed New Glarus advances to a regional final against Capitol South champion 1-seed Cambridge. The Bluejays swept the Glarner Knights in the regular season 4-3, 3-0.


LAKESIDE LUTHERAN 7, MONROE 0

LAKE MILLS — After upsetting 5-seed McFarland in a regional quarterfinal, 12-seed Monroe’s playoff run came to an end with a 7-0 loss to 4-seed Lakeside Lutheran in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal May 29.

The Warriors put crooked numbers up in the first and fifth innings and kept the Cheesemaker offense at bay with just three hits.

Keegan Dahmen, Marcus Ott and Logan Meier tallied hits. Eli Schaefer also reached base on a hit by pitch. Ethan Rosenstiel suffered the loss, giving up six earned runs on eight hits. He struck out two but walked three.

Monroe ends its season with an 8-18 record.
