DARLINGTON — Wisconsin Sports Network (WSN) is showcasing the WSN High School Basketball Awards.
These awards are presented annually to deserving senior student-athletes selected to represent one of five categories: point guard, wing, post, defense, and shooter.
Watch lists will be created from a combination of coach input and nominations, returning all-conference lists, WSN player rankings, and player evaluation. The watch lists consist of 30-50 players.
Those lists will be trimmed to 15 semi-finalists for each position halfway through the year, with five finalists to be selected after sectional play. The WSN staff selects the winners, with an announcement made the week after the state tournament.
Darlington senior Will Murray made the semifinal post list, which was released Thursday, Jan. 25. He joins John Adams (Milwaukee North), Riley Bechard (Waupaca), Tyler Brightman (Xavier), Presley Byom (Melrose-Mindoro), JJ Douglas (Janesville Parker), Jace Gilbert (Arrowhead), Nathan Gorman (Manawa), Gunnar Greuel (Winter), Will Hornseth (De Pere), Ethan Hurlburt (Durand-Arkansaw), Isaiah Kastern (Solon Springs), Ross Liegel (Baraboo), MJ Stackhouse (Kenosha Indian Trail) and Grant Warren (Marathon).
Through 17 games, Murray is averaging 20.3 ppg and shooting 57% from the field. Earlier this season, Murray surpassed 1,000 career points with a 26-point game against Fennimore. Murray is third on his squad in rebounds with 6.5 rpg, 2.2 assists per game and 1.4 steals per game. He’s also registered six blocks.
