Monroe tips Milton; ’Birds wrap up SWAL

MILTON — The Monroe boys ended the regular season with a 54-48 win over Milton Feb. 21.

The Cheesemakers (12-10, 9-5 Badger South) were knotted up with the Red Hawks (4-18, 1-13) at 28-28 at halftime, but Monroe found a way to come out on top in the second half.

Kade King led the Cheesemakers with 17 points, while Nick Schumacher scored 12. Michael Lange had eight and Cade Meyer six.

Milton’s Jack Campion led the Red Hawks with 14 points.


New Glarus 93, Poynette 64

POYNETTE — The Glarner Knights (20-2) will enter the postseason with a strong offensive note, scoring more than 90 points for the second straight game and for the sixth time this season.

Jaden Kreklow scored 21 points to lead the Knights in their Feb. 21 win over Poynette. New Glarus had four players in double figures in the game, with Zach Feller (18), Trevor Gassman (17) and Mason Martinson (13) also having big offensive nights.

New Glarus led 41-27 at halftime and out-scored Poynette 52-37 in the second half.

Garrett Bruchs led Poynette with 19 points.


Pecatonica 69, Albany 56

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings outscored by Comets by 11 in the second half, pulling away from a two-point lead at the break during the regular season finale for both teams Feb. 21.

Jaden Hendrickson scored 21 to lead Pecatonica, which had four players in double figures. Colton Schraepfer scored 14 for the Vikings, while Everett Johnson had 11 and Carter Ruegsegger 10.

Pecatonica (16-6, 10-2 Six Rivers East) finished one game out of Barneveld, which beat Juda and Argyle in the final week for the conference title. Albany (8-13, 5-7) finished fifth in the league standings.


Darlington 66, Iowa-Grant 37

LIVINGSTON — The Redbirds closed the regular season with a rousing road win Feb. 21.

Carter Lancaster led Darlington (19-2, 13-1 SWAL) with 17 points, while Stryker Fitzsimons had 13. Twelve Redbirds scored in the game. Cole Hubbard (15) was the lone Iowa-Grant (7-14, 3-11) player in double-figures.

The win, capped with a Mineral Point loss to Cuba City the same night, capped the league championship for Darlington.

East Troy 97, Brodhead 39

EAST TROY — The Trojans jumped out to a 59-18 lead at halftime and never looked back during the regular season finale Feb. 21.

AJ Vukovich led East Troy with 32 points. Quinten Lottig had 22 and Michael Polakoski had 20 for the Trojans (20-1, 18-0 Rock Valley), which are ranked seventh in the state in Division 2.

Brodhead (5-17, 3-15) dropped to Division 4 this season.


Barneveld 70, Juda 29

JUDA — The Panthers trailed the conference-leading Eagles by just 12 at halftime of their Feb. 21 matchup, but were outscored 37-8 in the second half.

Dogukan Yetgin scored 12 points to lead the way for Juda, which also got 11 points from Quinton Kammerer.

In other area action, Barneveld beat Argyle 59-49 Feb. 23 to cap the regular season.
