Monroe slays Delavan-Darien on Senior Night

MONROE — After falling to sixth-ranked Lodi 12-9 on April 29, Monroe’s offense exploded for 29 hits in two games. Cheesemaker pitching also stifled its opponents, striking out 12 and issuing no walks.


LODI 12, MONROE 9

MONROE — The Cheesemakers cut their 6-run deficit in half, but their seventh inning effort was cut short in a loss to the Blue Devils on April 29. Lodi, a member of the Capitol North, is ranked No. 6 in the Division 3 WisSports.net Coaches Poll.

Kaegann Paulson was a spark atop the order, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Sophie Golembiewski also contributed, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Paulson suffered the loss, giving up six earned runs in six innings.  She struck out four but walked five.


MONROE 29, DELAVAN-DARIEN 0

MONROE — Cheesemaker fans were not slighted on Senior Night April 30, as Monroe pounded out 17 hits in three innings to mercy rule Delavan-Darien. Every player recorded an RBI. 

Katrina Sathoff, Olivia Feller, Brinley Roidt, Emma Tran and Chyler Blackburn were not retired in the game. The five went a combined 12-for-12 with three extra-base hits, 15 RBIs and eight walks. 

Golembiewski dominated in the circle, facing the minimum nine batters. She struck out six in the three-inning perfect game.


MONROE 14, WHITEWATER 3

MONROE — After a 6-3 comeback win against the Whippets just two weeks earlier, Monroe stomped Whitewater in a RVC game on May 1. 

The Cheesemakers out-hit the Whippets 12-6, thanks to a 4-for-4 performance from Sathoff. The senior drove in four runs, scored once and smacked a double. Golembiewski added on, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Paulson gave up just one earned run in the win, striking out six.


BRODHEAD 13, EAST TROY 3

BRODHEAD — Sophia Leitzen’s grand slam kick started the No. 1 Cardinals in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game on April 29. It was her second at bat of a nine-run first inning.

Leitzen finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored. Jaelyn Hilliard added on, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Karli Krumwiede was not retired in two at bats.

Ava Risum and Leitzen pitched three innings each, giving up one earned run on three hits. They struck out 12 and walked two.


BRODHEAD 3, CLINTON 1

BRODHEAD — Risum won a pitcher’s duel with Ashley Theisen in a league game on April 30, where the two combined for 27 strikeouts. It is just the third time all season Brodhead has not won by five runs or more.

Leitzen homered for the second time in as many days, finishing 2-for-3. Keegan Steinke also recorded two hits and an RBI. In the circle, Risum gave up one unearned run on five hits and struck out 15.


BARNEVELD 10, MONTICELLO-NEW GLARUS 1

MONTICELLO — Eleven errors plagued the Ponies in a Six Rivers East Conference game on April 30. The No. 7 Eagles capitalized on the mistakes, scoring nine unearned runs.

MNG’s offense struck out 12 times and tallied just three hits from Melanie Fink, Karlee Wilkins and Reagan Mimetz. Tatum O’Bel suffered the loss, giving up one earned run on seven hits. She struck out one and didn’t issue a walk.


ARGYLE-BLACK HAWK 5, MONTICELLO-NEW GLARUS 4

ARGYLE — Despite giving up three walks, committing an error and allowing two runs to score in the top of the seventh, ABH held on for a Six Rivers East Conference win on April 29. Oriole pitcher Mya McNett stranded the tying run on second by getting Sadie Wilkins to ground out.

Ava Wiegel and Maddy Lange drove in two runs each to lead the offense. McNett picked up the win, giving up two earned runs on six hits. She struck out six but walked five.

Karlee Wilkins tallied two hits for MNG, while Megan Peterson and O’Bel reached twice each via walk. Kira Whisler was the pitcher of record, giving up two earned runs on six hits. She struck out five and walked two.


ARGYLE-BLACK HAWK 7, DARLINGTON 5

ARGYLE — The Orioles held off another late-game comeback by the Redbirds in a nonconference game on May 1. Five of the game’s 12 runs were scored in the sixth inning.

Lange went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for ABH. Kylie Butler lined a triple and reached twice via walk. McNett earned the win, giving up three earned runs on nine hits. She struck out seven but walked six.

Sophie Wiegel led Darlington at the plate and in the circle. She went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and pitched a complete game. Wiegel gave up six earned runs on seven hits. She struck out three but walked six.


CUBA CITY 7, DARLINGTON 0

CUBA CITY — The Redbirds had just two runners in scoring position against No. 9 Cubans in a SWAL game on April 29.

Maddy Corley was not retired in three plate appearances, tallying a hit and drawing two walks. Wiegel suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs on seven hits.
