SUN PRAIRIE — The Cheesemakers dropped four matches in the Sun Prairie Invite May 11, winning all of four games. Monroe fell to Madison West 6-1, Madison Memorial 7-0, Stevens Point 4-3 and Homestead 7-0.

No. 1 doubles partners Ryan Mathiason and Wes Saunders continue to be mainstays in the lineup, going 2-2 on the weekend. The pair defeated SPASH 7-6 (5), 6-1 and Madison West 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (4).

“Ryan’s serve was a huge weapon, and Wes complimented Ryan extremely well with some great volleying,” Monroe head coach Matt Bordner said. “They did a nice job of staying calm and resetting into the tiebreak.”

No. 2 doubles Brandon Bassett and Carsen Bartholf, who began the season as doubles partners and transitioned to singles, picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over SPASH. No. 3 singles Hamilton Stites earned the other win in three-set match, 7-6 (2), 1-6, 10-7.

The team was without No. 1 singles Matthew Setterstrom, who was out with an injury.
