WHITEWATER — Three totes by Cameron Newcomer gave the Cheesemakers a 20-lead from which the Whippets could not overcome. Monroe extended its undefeated conference streak with a 39-6 victory over Whitewater Sept. 20.
Newcomer was one of four backs to find the end zone, including Tony Wolf (10 attempts for 144 yards), Nathan Fuchs (7-64) and Joe Rufenacht (2-14). All of these runs, combined with Bryce Roelli’s 37 passing yards, equaled 403 yards of total offense.
NEW GLARUS 20, RICHLAND CENTER 8
NEW GLARUS — With one score in three of the four quarters, the Glarner Knights defeated the Hornets in an SWC game on Sept. 20. With the victory, NG improved to 2-1 and is in a four-way tie with Lancaster, Platteville and River Valley for second place in the league.
The Knights struck early with an 82-yard touchdown pass from Matt Roth to Will Pinnow just 1:30 in the game. Thirty-two seconds before going into the locker room at halftime, Milo Johnson ran two yards for a score, making it 14-0. Arguably the biggest play of the night, though, was Charlie Sarbacker’s 65-yard pick-six.
Roth finished 8-for-17 passing with 123 yards and one touchdown to Pinnow (2 receptions, 84 yards). Johnson, who had the lone rushing touchdown, finished with 91 yards. Defensively, Andrew Sarbacker tallied nine tackles.
MINERAL POINT 27, BELLEVILLE 9
MINERAL POINT — A 14-point second quarter was the difference in a SWAL matchup Sept. 20. The two teams were knotted at 7-7 after the first frame, before the Pointers pulled away in the second. But statistically, it appeared as if Belleville should have won the game.
The Wildcats had 42 more rushing yards than the Pointers, hauled in two interceptions and forced a fumble. In the air, Belleville had only nine fewer yards. They just couldn’t cash in.
Brennan Keyes was 9-for-22 passing for 47 yards. He also tallied 81 rushing yards on 14 carries with a touchdown. Sam Arndt had the two picks and forced fumble combined with six tackles. Logan Derke led the way with 12.
WAUZEKA-SENECA 37, PECATONICA-ARGYLE 12
BLANCHARDVILLE — The Blue-Golds scored in every quarter while limiting Vikings to score in just the second quarter in a Six Rivers contest Sept. 21.
Martin Anderson was 14-for-28 passing with 147 yards and two touchdowns to Ike Waage (3 receptions, 56 yards) and Jeremiah Collins (4-67). Mason McNett led the run game with 13 carries for 94 yards. Defensively, Riley Holmes recorded a team-high 10 tackles.
NORTH CRAWFORD 52, MONTICELLO 0
SOLDIERS GROVE — The fifth-ranked team in 8-player football came ready to play in its Ridge & Valley contest against the Ponies on Sept. 21. North Crawford had 439 yards of total offense and held Monticello to just three first downs and 78 yards of total offense.
Tanner Hilliard was 7-for-13 passing for 58 yards. Alex Roe had 15 rushing yards on seven carries with one reception for 19 yards. Hunter Grossen carried the ball 10 times for eight yards and had four receptions for 27 yards. Defensively, Roe had a team-high 10 tackles.
In other local football, Darlington shut out Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg 47-0. The Redbirds are currently ranked No. 9 in Division 5. Parkview-Albany picked up its second win of the season, defeating Dodgeland 22-13.
