Monroe edges Reedsburg-WD-M 3-2

WISCONSIN DELLS — A power-play goal from Gavin Roth in the second period gave Monroe a 3-2 lead that it didn’t relinquish in a conference victory over Reedsburg-Wisconsin Dells-Mauston on Jan. 30. The Cheesemakers have won their last four Badger Small games.

Patrick Alt gave Monroe (10-7-1, 6-4-0) a 2-0 lead in the first with two goals. The first came just 23 seconds into the game on assists from Wyatt Janecke and Brody Goode. Roth then found Alt for a power-play goal as the first period drew to a close.

Reedsburg (5-13-0, 3-7-0) knotted the score in the second frame with goals from Kaden Uminski and Ryan Manley, both assisted by Andrey Tougas. Late in the second period, Uminski went to the box for holding. Roth took advantage, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal on the power play.

Neither team scored in the third.

Kyle Theorin picked up the win, stopping 15 of 17 shots on goal. Monroe’s offense, which tallied 43 shots on goal, was led by Alt, Roth and Janecke.

With two assists, Janecke collected his 19th point of the season. He became the program’s seventh all-time leading points getter, surpassing Cade Martin of Belleville (15G, 40A, 55 pts). If Janecke scores four more points, he will edge out Cooper Dreyfus from New Glarus (24G, 35A, 59 pts). 

KETTLE MORAINE 8, BELOIT 7

BELOIT — Despite scoring on five of seven power plays, Beloit suffered a nonconference loss on Jan. 29.

Kettle Moraine (12-5-1, 8-3-0 Classic Eight) skater Eli Schwartz tallied a hat trick 12 minutes into the game. He added a fourth goal in the first period, giving his team a 4-1 lead. 

The Purple Knights (7-15-0, 0-11-0 Big Eight) knotted the game at 5 with four straight power-play goals. KMMO committed four penalties in six minutes, including a 10-minute game misconduct from Fin Yaeger’s boarding.

KMMO pulled ahead 8-5 with back-to-back goals from Nolan Lawrenz — one power play and one short-handed. Cooper Nanney’s added yet another power-play goal on to end the second period.

Although the Knights pulled within one, 8-7, Max Allen received 24 penalty minutes with head contact. Beloit was unable to complete the comeback, falling just short.

Cole Rowald led all Knight skaters with five points from three goals and two assists. Allen and Gavin Brady chipped in three points each. Gentry Grant suffered the loss, giving up eight goals on 44 shots. 

BELOIT 6, WHITEFISH BAY 0

BELOIT — The Knights rebounded from their loss on Monday to shutout Whitefish Bay (6-15-0, 2-5-0 Classic Eight) on Jan. 31. 

Cole Rowald recorded a hat trick with one assist for four points. Allen also tallied four points with one goal and three assists. Grant picked up the win, stopping 21 shots on goal.
