SPRING GREEN — Monroe senior Kyle Legler finished 11th at the WIAA Division 2 sectional at Spring Green Golf Course with a time of 17 minutes, 21.3 seconds. The last individual qualifier for state was Madison Edgewood’s Leo Richardson, who finished ninth at 17:17.1.

With the temperatures in the 30s and the heavy winds bringing in the occasional flurry of snow, the Cheesemakers took seventh in the boy’s race with 178 points, one place behind New Glarus-Monticello (147) and well behind champion McFarland (72).

“It just wasn’t our day,” Monroe head coach Scott Mosher said. “We had to be perfect and others needed to mess up for us to have a chance.”

Monroe junior Dylan Fahrney finished 19th with a time of 17:53 and Alex Henry was 44th (18:39). Also running at the sectional for the Cheesemakers were senior Brennan Shelton (51st, 18:48), junior Trevor Boll (53rd, 18:51), freshman Heath Huschitt (56th, 18:59) and junior Jake Brower (59th, 19:03).

“Even though we missed qualifying for state, it was really neat to see this group of guys come together and work for the common goal,” Mosher said.

McFarland’s Andrew Pahnke (16:31) and Eli Kemna (16:53) finished first and second overall. Platteville was the second-place team.
