MONROE — The Cheesemakers held the Green County Open May 17 at Monroe Golf Club, and although Mount Horeb won the team title, Monroe senior Jack Rogerson walked away as the medalist in his final regular-season event.
Rogerson shot a 75 on the day, with a 2-over-par mark on the front nine and going 3-over on the back. He had 11 pars, six bogies and birdied the par-4 11th. He’s the first Cheesemaker to win an invitational since Devon Boeck won in Stoughton in 2017.
Mount Horeb (330) cruised by the rest of the field, with all four scoring golfers shooting an 87 or under. Parkview was second with a 353, New Glarus third (375), Monroe fourth (386), Monticello-Belleville fifth (398), then Argyle-Pecatonica (401) and Brodhead (423).
Conner Allen (96) was the only other Cheesemaker to break 100. Monroe was playing without junior Noah Becker, one of it’s top two players. Coach Braden Rindy expected Becker to participate in the May 21 WIAA regional at Big Foot.
While the Knights struggled collectively, three players shot under 100 — Jacob Krantz had an 88, Matt Hach finished with a 91 and Zak Arnett carded a 96.
Monticello-Belleville’s Pete Gustafson shot an 82 with teammate Jakson Trainer finishing with a 93, snagging a birdie on the par-3 sixth hole. Brodhead’s Dayton Oliver had a 91 and Argyle-Pecatonica’s Noah Krahenbuhl finished with a 94. Krahenbuhl birdied the par-3 No. 8.
Mount Horeb’s Tommy Winkler took second overall and had three birdies.
Monroe, Brodhead and Belleville-Monticello will take part in the WIAA Division 2 Big Foot regional May 21 at Grand Geneva Highlands in Lake Geneva. A week later, any qualifying golfers and teams would play at the D2 sectional at Prairie du Chien Country Club.
New Glarus, Darlington and Argyle-Pecatonica play their WIAA Division 3 regional at Dodge Point Country Club in Mineral Point. The D3 sectional is slated for May 28 at The Oaks in Cottage Grove.
