MONROE – The Cheesemakers picked up a four-set win March 26 against Stoughton, 25-23, 12-25, 25-21, 28-26.

“A Senior Night win and the last home game of this short, regular season,” coach Heidi Witt said. “(I’m) very proud of how all the girls played tonight. They kept their composure and battled to the very end.”

Stoughton jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening set, prompting Witt to call a timeout. The lead grew to 8 points at 11-3, but the Cheesemakers countered with senior Zoee Pond at the service line, who helped bring it all the way back to even at 11-11. Pond scored the initial sideout on a kill, then had three aces in the 8-0 run. After a quick sideout on a net violation, Monroe got possession back and Taylor Jacobson added two more aces to make it 14-12 Monroe.

“We had an incredible night at the serving line, especially from Zoee Pond,” Witt said. “Just an overall team effort on and off the court, as well as in the stands.”

Pond finished the night with 9 aces, 7 kills and 4 digs. Jacobson had 3 kills, 4 aces and 2 blocks. Taylor Broge added 3 aces, Katie Hayes dished out 8 assists and Alyse Maurer finished with 8 digs.

The Cheesemakers are 1-6 overall, and 1-3 in the Badger South. Monroe is off for spring break and plays next April 6 at Waunakee, and then April 8 at Mount Horeb. The WIAA postseason regional round is set for April 10.
