DELAVAN — The Cheesemakers went 2-1 at the Delavan-Darien Quad April 13.

Monroe was blanked by McFarland 7-0, but then knocked off both Jefferson and Delavan-Darien 4-3.

“The quad went well today, especially considering we were short-handed due to some guys having prom commitments on Saturday. We were almost at full strength in our first-round match against Jefferson, and played with quite a few of our JV guys in the last two rounds,” Monroe coach Matt Bordner said.

The Cheesemakers swept Jefferson in the singles matches. Bo Bahler was the winner at No. 1 singles, defeating Blake Drays 6-1, 6-4. Chris Andraski knocked off Mason Lindemoen at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Gabe Moon, playing at No. 3 singles, won a tight match over Chayce Rayner, 7-5, 6-4, and Charlie Frehner won the No. 4 singles dual by blanking Josh Emery 6-0, 6-0.

“I was really proud of our singles players today. We have a young singles lineup and so I’m excited to see how this group develops as we move forward. Bo and Chris played well at the top and Charlie Frehner looked great in his debut at playing singles,” Bordner said.

In the doubles against Jefferson, each of Monroe’s tandems lost in three sets. At No. 1 doubles, Evan Thompson and Heath Bear lost in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 10-6. Wade Sweeney and Jon Callaway fell at No. 2 doubles 6-1, 3-6, 10-4, and Luis Torres and Henry Schluesche came up short at No. 3 doubles, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 10-7.

“Our doubles teams all went to match tiebreakers versus Jefferson, and it was a good learning experience for our guys as each of our doubles teams took tough losses,” Bordner said. “We got tight going into those tiebreakers and it goes to show how important each point really is. Luckily our singles players finished off some close matches as well which made for a great team effort.”

Against Delavan-Darien, Monroe took 3 of 4 singles matches, and won the No. 3 doubles match as well. Bahler needed a tiebreaker to fend of Raymond Wang 6-4, 4-6, 11-9. Andraski topped Jordy Perez 7-6 (3), 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Frehner won 6-0, 6-0 over Emilio Aranda. Torres played No. 3 singles for the Cheesemakers and lost 6-1, 6-2.

Camden Steinmann and Tayveon Cameron were victorious for Monroe in the No. 3 doubles match, winning 6-1, 6-2. Ayden Bergemann and Francisco Ocampo lost at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-2, and Bear and Callaway fell at No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-2.

In the loss to McFarland, Bo Bahler fell to Carter Johnson 6-3, 6-2. Andraski lost to Jack Newman 6-1, 6-2, Frehner came up short at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-2 and Torres was defeated at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-4.

Bear and Callaway lost the No. 1 doubles match 6-1, 6-0. Ayden Bergemann and Scott Navarro were blanked 6-0, 6-0, and Steinmann and Chance Nielsen dropped the No. 3 doubles in two sets, 6-3, 6-0.

“We still have some spots in our lineup we need to figure out, but we have a really good idea of who our top 10-12 players are. Filling out those top 10 varsity positions and figuring out doubles pairings will be important as we enter our conference playing coming up,” Bordner said.

Monroe, now 2-2 in duals on the season, was scheduled to face Watertown April 16 in the conference opener, with a home opener against Oregon slated for April 18.
