McIntyre reaches 100 career wins at Mt. Horeb

MOUNT HOREB — Marcus McIntyre scored his 100th career win at the Mount Horeb Invite on Saturday, Dec. 16, where Brodhead-Juda finished ninth of 17 teams (104.5 points).

McIntyre (138), who has just one loss on the season, received a bye in the first round. He then pinned Jayden Ross of Madison West in 1:15. McIntyre won by tech fall in the semifinal before pinning Brett Suchocki of Merrill in the championship. Joe Lohmar (150) also won his bracket. He pinned all three of his opponents.

Brodhead-Juda brought just eight wrestlers to the invite, with two of them coming away individual champions.

Parkview-Albany took fifth with 124 points and two individual champions.

Sam Schwengels (190) was one of two Vikings to take first. He received a bye in the first round before pinning his next two opponents. In the championship match, Schwengels defeated Payton Lyon of Whitewater by a 6-1 decision.

Wesley Egan (215) took a similar route to his individual championship. He received a first-round bye before pinning his next two opponents. In the championship, Ega won a narrow 3-1 decision over Merrill’s Noah Klug.

Pecatonica-Argyle finished close behind Parkview-Albany, placing sixth with 123.5 team points and three individual champions. The Vikings brought just six wrestlers to the invite.

Aidan Gruenenfelder (113) received two byes before a semifinal 12-4 major decision over Jerrin Glasbrenner of Fennimore. In the championship, Gruenenfelder pinned Parkview-Albany’s Slater Valley in 3:44.

Lukas Orloff (120) won his bracket with a bye and three pins. 

Jakob Orloff (132) finished first with a bye, 23-7 tech fall, pin and 3-2 decision.

In the girls division, Parkview-Albany’s Sydney Coyne (235) finished first with two first-period pins of Marianna Kubicz of Whitewater.

BADGER STATE

MADISON — With one individual champion and four others in the top three, Sugar River finished runners up at the Badger State Invite at the Alliant Energy Center on Saturday, Dec. 17. 

The Raiders collected 165.5 team points, which was 70.5 less than the winning team of Hickman.

Mason Mau (138) was the lone champion, earning a first-round bye. Mau advanced to the championship match with a 19-4 tech fall and two major decisions. He then earned the title with a 4-2 sudden victory over Cade Aaberg of Oregon, a Division 1 school.

Blake Endres (120) and Ryker Swenson (165) finished second, while Garrett Pauli (215) and Isaac Erb (285) took third.

Individual champions Owen Seffrood (150) and Breylin Goebel (157) led Darlington-Black Hawk to a fourth-place finish with 129.5 team points.

Seffrood’s first three matches didn’t go further than the second period, ending in two tech falls and a pin. In the championship, Seffrood defeated Monroe’s Christian Schuh by a 18-4 major decision.

Goebel received a first-round bye before pinning his next two opponents. He then won by a major 16-4 decision over Wilmont Union’s Logan Defllippo in the semifinal. In the championship, Goebel defeated Aiden Sperle of Cambridge by a 15-0 tech fall.

Ethan Aird (126) took third.

Monroe finished 15 of 26 teams with 73.5 points. Schuh (150) was the highest individual finisher at second. He made it to the championship match with two pins and an 8-1 major decision before falling to Seffrood. Carson Menehan (132) took third. 

In the girls division, Darlington-Black Hawk’s Ashlynn Eckerman (152) took second to Lomira’s Kara Kuge by injury default. Eckerman made it to the championship match with a medical forfeit, sudden victory and pin. Monroe’s Lexi Gallagher (107) took third.
