4:45 p.m. - Monroe wins 59-47, holding off Whitefish Bay. State championship tomorrow will be all-Badger Conference with Monroe vs. Beaver Dam at 6:35 p.m. here at the Resch Center.
4:39 p.m. - Ellie Clements hits a 3 for Whitefish Bay, which brings it to 55-47 in favor of Monroe. Ele Deslongchamps has fouled out for Whitefish Bay. Monroe ball, 2:02 remaining.
4:36 p.m. - Whitefish Bay is not giving up, and has forced Monroe into a couple of turnovers. It's still 53-42 Cheesemakers with 2:22 remaining. Winner gets back-to-back champ and No. 1-ranked Beaver Dam tomorrow at 6:35 p.m.
4:32 p.m. - Monroe leads 53-39. The Cheesemakers are now in the bonus, and have slowed down the offense to a stall.
4:24 p.m. - Monroe now leads 47-32, Hilliard has 24 including a doozy of a fake pass on a drive to the rim. She's now just 33 points away from the unprecedented 2,000-mark for her career. She also moved into 4th on the school's rebound list (she has six today, needed three).
4:17 p.m. - Sometimes leaders, take over games. Sometimes seniors take over games. Sometimes a future DI college player takes over games.
Monroe is lucky to have all three, as Sydney Hilliard has turned this game into a showcase of her talents. She has nine points in the half, 20 in the game, and Monroe has outscored Whitefish Bay 15-4 in the second half to take a 43-30 lead with 10:04 left in regulation.
4:10 p.m. - TV timeout with 13:27 left in regulation, Monroe leads 34-30. Hilliard and Benzschawel making their final shots of high school count, both have 15 points.
4:03 p.m. - More halftime stats, Monroe finished with five turnovers, while WB ended with six. WB was 38.5 percent from the field, Monroe 40 percent. WB 4-for-13 from 3, Monroe 3-for-6. Biggest number, Monroe 9-for-11 on FT, WB 2-for-2.
3:53 p.m. - Halftime, and Monroe has taken a 28-26 lead on Whitefish Bay. Emily Benzschawel has 13 points for Monroe, while Hilliard has 11. Benzschawel also hit two pull-up NBA-range 3-pointers and added another runner in the closing minutes. Should be a fun and fantastic second half.
3:47 p.m. - Monroe takes a brief 17-15 lead after some free throws by Emily Benzschawel and Sydney Hilliard, but Whitefish Bay is back on top 21-19 with 2:54 remaining in the first half.
3:39 p.m. - Coach Sam Mathiason must have said the right words to his Cheesemakers, because Monroe went on an 8-0 run to tie the game. Now there is just 6:54 left in the first half, with Whitefish Bay ahead 15-13 after a pair of free throws.
3:32 p.m. - Another TV timeout, and Monroe trails 13-5. Cheesemakers just 1-for-7 from the field (14.3%) and have committed four turnovers. Whitefish Bay is 6-for-12 shooting with zero turnovers.
3:24 p.m. - We're underway here in Green Bay. Whitefish Bay has gone straight to a 1-3-1 zone, utilizing their length. Monroe has struggled shooting to start and trail 7-2 with 14:27 left in the first half.
3:00 p.m. - Beaver Dam closes out Hortonville 68-48. It was a 31-point game midway through the second half, but the Polar Bears have made a respectable late run. So the Beavers will be defending their title yet again. Monroe warmups being in just a few minutes, with tipoff about 20 minutes away (3:20 p.m.)
2:25 p.m. - Monroe and Whitefish Bay will kick off at about 3:15 p.m. here at the Resch Center in Green Bay in a WIAA Division 2 girls basketball state semifinal game.
It's currently 57-29 Beaver Dam over Hortonville with 10 minutes to play in the first D2 semifinal. Beaver Dam is the two-time defending state champion. Tomorrow's state championship game is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. tomorrow.
