12:26 p.m. - BALLGAME!!! Black Hawk is your 2018-19 WIAA Division 5 state champion!
The Warriors finish the season unbeaten, topping Clayton 51-36 in the championship.
12:18 p.m. - The Warriors have led by as much as 15, but now that advantage is 12. Hannah Butler , Kristin Knapp and Kaylee Marty each have two points, but this show is all Bailey and Natalie right now - combining for 42 points.
12:10 p.m. - Bailey Butler has 19 points and Leuzinger has 21 for Black Hawk, which have picked up their shooting tremendously in the second half, including a 4-for-5 mark from distance. The girls in black have the Eye of the Tiger, so to speak, and they look like they are ready to finish off the Bears.
12:08 p.m. - Bailey Butler and Natalie Leuzinger have lifted the Warriors with a couple of 3s now, and Black Hawk leads 44-31 with 7:04 left. The Warriors have outscored Clayton 23-10 here in the first 11 minutes of the second half.
12:01 p.m. - We've hit the afternoon, and Black Hawk leads 35-29 with 10:49 left in regulation. The Clayton Bears have clawed their way to keep it close, but Bailey Butler just lifted the roof with an And-1 basket in the paint.
11:55 a.m. - Warriors come out of the half like gangbusters.- especially Bailey Butler. The sophomore scored twice in the paint and just hit a big 3 that forced a Clayton timeout. The 7-0 run to open the half has Black Hawk ahead 28-21 with 14:44 left in regulation.
11:40 a.m. - Clayton comes all the way back to tie it at 21 right before the half. While the Bears have found their mark from deep (4 of 8, 50%), Black Hawk has looked eerily similar to their abysmal shooting performance in last year's title game. Black Hawk is a respectable 9-for-25 (36%) from the field, but from deep the Warriors are just 1-for-12 (8.3%). Coming into the state tournament, the Warriors were shooting 32% from deep, and they were 9 of 20 (45%) in yesterday's semifinal game.
11:35 a.m. - Clayton came in shooting 37.6% from beyond the arc, and they have hit their last four attempts here today. Black Hawk's advantage sits at 21-19 with 2:03 left in the first half.
11:28 a.m. - Clayton has made a push with back-to-back 3-pointers and Black Hawk's lead is cut to 17-12 with 5:55 left in the first half. The shots have stopped falling for the Warriors, but the loose balls and turnovers are still there. As much as the Warriors steal the ball and create turnovers, they get their hands in for deflections even more, which often leads to chaos.
11:21 a.m. - Another TV timeout. Black Hawk leads 13-6 with 10:32 left in the first half. Hannah Butler is about to return to the game for Black Hawk. Hannah picked up two quick fouls in the opening minutes.
11:16 a.m. - Natalie Leuzinger hits a 3 to open the game, and right before a TV Timeout Bailey Butler finished a Clayton turnover with a give-and-go from Maddy Huschitt, hitting the layup and the And-1 free throw. Black Hawk leads 11-2 with 13:56 left in the first half.
11:08 a.m. - TIP-OFF!!! The lights turned down for starting intros definitely added a bit of buzz and adrenaline.
10:48 a.m. The teams are on the court and warming up. Once we tip it away, you can follow along live stats on the WIAA's website.
10:30 a.m. - Clayton plays in the Lakeland Central Conference up in the Northwoods. The Bears average 62.6 points per game and less than 11 turnovers per contest. They have three players average more than 14 points per game - Kailey Ketz (14.9), Kennedy Patrick (14.4) and Alison Leslie (14.0). All three can hit the 3-point shot, but Ketz is the team leader in both attempts and baskets. She's a 5-foot-7 senior guard. Patrick is a 5-8 senior forward, as is Leslie. Clayton's tallest player is sophomore Abbie Schradle (5-9), who hardly sees the court. The lack of height by the Bears bodes well for Black Hawk's equally undersized team.
10:25 a.m. - The Warriors have rode the entire season with the mantra of #UnfinishedBusiness. They lost last year's title game to Bangor in which they shot the ball with historically low percentages - nearly 30 percent below their season average for field goals and 3-pointers. The core of the team is back this year and has looked every bit the part of last year's sensation. Black Hawk also has just two losses in the last three seasons, which covers 79 games.
Bailey Butler, Hannah Butler and Natalie Leuzinger are all underclassmen and have a shot again next year of repeating their success.
Fun fact, Black Hawk has also never held the gold ball in school history, but this is the fifth trip to state for the program - all under head coach Mike Flanagan's tutelage the past 11 seasons.
10:20 a.m. - Just about 45 minutes away from tip as No. 1 Black Hawk (27-0) faces No. 2 Clayton (27-0) in the WIAA Division 5 state championship. The two teams were ranked 1-2 in both the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association and Associated Press polls all season. This is the game everyone wanted, this is the game we get.
