NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights clawed their way back all game and a pair of Mason Martinson free throws with 2.6 seconds left gave New Glarus its only lead and ensuing 86-84 victory against Wisconsin Heights. The game was played Jan. 19, being pushed back one day due to the Jan. 18 snowstorm.
Wisconsin Heights hit 10 of 11 3-pointers in the first half and led 53-38 at halftime. The lead grew to 19 in the second half before the Knights were able to straighten things out.
With 80 seconds left in the game, Trevor Gassman stole a ball near midcourt on a full-court press and found Connor Siegenthaler in the right corner. Siegenthaler buried the 3-pointer with 1:14 left to tie the score at 84.
Wisconsin Heights held the ball on its next possession to run time and had a chance to take the lead on bonus free throws. Shravan Parman missed the front end of a 1-and-1 bonus, with Gassman pulling down the rebound. The Knights held the ball at near midcourt to wind down the clock, and in the final seconds Jaden Kreklow drove to the hoop and dished to Martinson on the block, who was then fouled on his shot attempt.
A last-second 75-foot heave came up short for the Vanguards.
Kreklow led all-scorers with 23 points. The Knights had five players in double figures, with Zach Feller (21), Gassman (16), Martinson (12) and Siegenthaler (10) each putting together big games. Feller hit four 3s, while Kreklow had three and Siegenthaler two. Wisconsin Heights hit just one shot from deep in the second half.
