MONTICELLO — Senior Peter Gustafson became the 22nd member of the Monticello Ponies 1,000 Point Club Dec. 3 in the second half of a 69-26 win over Albany. The Ponies stole the ball from the Comets, and Gustafson was all alone on a fast break, slamming down an emphatic dunk to highlight the moment.
Gustafson finished the night 14 of 19 shooting for 32 points. He now has 1,005 in his career. He added 5 rebounds and a pair of assists. Teammate Rudy Wicker had 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Lucas Heiser added 7 points.
Monticello finished just 8 of 18 from the free throw line, but shot more than 50% from the field on 55 attempts. The Ponies led at halftime 43-16.
Darlington 84, Iowa-Grant 53
DARLINGTON — The Redbirds led by just seven at halftime in the season opener, but outscored the Panthers 39-15 in the second half to pull out the victory.
Two Darlington players finished with double-doubles. Carter Lancaster led the Redbirds with 37 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, while Cayden Rankin added 11 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 7 steals and 3 blocks. Curtis Stone added 13 points, while Hunter Hardyman and Will Murray each chipped in 8 points.
Darlington struggled from deep, hitting just 1 of 10 shots from beyond the 3-point line. However, the Redbirds were 32 of 51 from inside the arc, and another 17 of 26 from the charity stripe.
Isaac Hill led Iowa-Grant with 19 points, including a 12 of 13 mark from the free throw line. Alex Popple added 10 points.
Brodhead 64, Jefferson 40
JEFFERSON — The Cardinals opened the season with a strong showing Dec. 4, outscoring the Eagles 32-16 in the first half, and 32-24 in the second half.
Owen Leifker led Brodhead with 22 points, while Chase Harnack and Josiah Engen each had 10. Brady Malkow added 9 points for the Cardinals.
Isaiah Hoffman was the only Eagle in double figures, finishing with just 10 on the night.

Brodhead 57, Turner 38
BRODHEAD — The Cardinals outscored the Trojans 38-19 in a foul-filled second half to score a win in the season opener Dec. 5.
Junior Kiarra Moe led Brodhead with 14 points, while freshman Addie Yates and junior Madisyn Kail each had 10 and sophomore Abbie Dix added 7.
Both Brodhead and Turner reached double-digit fouls in the second half, but the Cardinals made the most of it by going 10 of 15 from the free throw line, while the Trojans were just 4 of 9.
Lancaster 41, Darlington 38
DARLINGTON — The Redbirds fell to 0-4 on the season after narrowly falling to Lancaster Dec. 5.
Kiley Kelly scored 13 points to lead the Arrows, which led 23-18 at halftime.
