Fury snags No. 1 seed

BELOIT — With a 16-6-0 overall record and 11-0 mark in the Badger Conference, the Rock County Fury earned a No. 1 seed in the WIAA girls hockey playoff bracket, released Sunday, Feb. 4.

The Fury will host the winter of No. 5 Cap City Cougars (7-15-1, 5-6-1 Badger) and No. 4 Badger Lightning (7-12-0, 5-6-0 Badger) on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

As Badger Conference members, Rock County has beaten both the Cap City Cougars and Badger Lightning twice. The closest contests were 2-1 against the Cougars on Dec. 12 and Jan. 25.

BOYS HOCKEY

Despite an overall record above .500, Monroe (12-7-1, 7-4 Badger Small) earned a 10 seed in the WIAA boys hockey playoff bracket, released Sunday, Feb. 4.

The Cheesemakers travel to No. 7 Muskego Ice Force (11-11-1, 4-6-1 Classic Eight) for a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, Feb. 13. 

Monroe and Muskego have three common opponents in Sauk Prairie, Janesville and McFarland. Both teams defeated Sauk and fell to McFarland. The Ice Force defeated Janesville twice — 4-0 and 7-2 — whereas the Cheesemakers fell 3-1.

The winner will face No. 2 University School of Milwaukee (10-10-1). 

Beloit (8-15-0, 1-11 Big Eight) received the No. 11 seed and will travel to No. 6 Marquette (11-8-0, 5-6 Classic Eight) on Tuesday, Feb. 13. 

The Purple Knights and Hilltoppers share six common opponents in Kenosha, Janesville, Stoughon, Cedarburg, KMMO and Whitefish Bay. In nearly every instance, Marquette defeated the opponent, whereas Beloit fell to the same team. The only time this wasn’t the case was against Whitefish Bay and Janesville. The Hilltoppers fell to Whitefish Bay 4-3, while the Knights shut them out 6-0. Beloit recently earned a split with Janesville, where Marquette lost their only contest 6-5. 

The winner travels to No. 3 KMMO (13-6-1, 7-3 Classic Eight).
