PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — The WarBirds advanced four wrestlers to the WIAA Division 2 sectional. Owen Huschitt, Brady Horne, Wiley Zasada and Matt King all finished second or better at the Jan. 30 regional.
Huschitt (10-1), at 170 pounds, was second, losing his only match of the season to Prairie du Chien’s Bradyn Saint by an 8-3 decision. Saint finished fifth at state a year ago.
Horne (12-2) won a 5-0 decision in the 182-pound semifinal, then pinned Cooper Johnston of Cuba City-Benton-Southwestern in just 54 seconds in the championship match.
At 195, Zasada (9-4) pinned PDC’s Chad Achenbach in 46 seconds in the championship round.
King (10-1) pinned John Wachershauser of PDC in just 33 seconds.
Ethan Aird (1-3) was pinned in the 106-pound semifinal, but defeated Belmont-Platteville’s Austin Cushman by pin in the third round to reach the wrestleback. Aird was pinned in the second round and finished in third place.
Elsewhere, Breylin Goebel took third at 152, Bryan Luzaro was fourth at 285, and Tye Crist was fifth at 145.
The four Darlington-Black Hawk wrestlers that are moving on will next compete at the Richland Center Sectional Feb. 6.
Division 3
LANCASTER — Two Pecatonica-Argyle wrestlers advanced out of the Jan. 30 regional.
At 145 pounds, Kristian Orloff (9-2) was second place, and Noah Krahenbuhl (9-1) was second at 132 pounds.
Orloff pinned Connar Northouse of Fennimore in just 83 seconds in the semifinal match. Orloff then lost to Iowa-Grant/Highland’s Andrew Winders by pin in the championship. In the wrestleback, Orloff pinned Mineral Point’s Jimmy Tibbits in 71 seconds.
Krahenbuhl, a 3-time state qualifier, won his semifinal match by a 6-1 decision, but then lost to Fennimore’s Brody Lee 15-4 in the championship.
Elsewhere for Pecatonica-Argyle, Dakota Doescher (6-3) was third at 138 pounds, as was Jakob Orloff (8-2) at 106. Ridge Toay (5-4) was fourth at 113, Lukas Rue (3-5) finished fourth at 152, and Tayte Hirsch (6-4) was fourth at 170.
The two remaining Vikings will compete at the Mineral Point Sectional Feb. 6.
