Juda, NG, Brodhead all fall; Argyle sweeps Pecatonica

ORFORDVILLE — The Cheesemakers swept Parkview Sept. 25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.

“We really played well as a team,” Monroe coach Heidi Witt said. “We seemed to have lost sight of that a bit in previous matches. Although not completely healthy either, Monroe kept the momentum on their side most of the night.”

Zoee Pond led the Cheesemakers with 11 kills, which also got seven kills and three aces from Lexi Davis.

“Zoee Pond had the hot swinging arm and Cassi Gersbach and Makayla Harrow worked the net pretty well,” Witt said. 

Harrow led Monroe with four blocks and Gersbach had three blocks. Lily Frehner dished out 25 assists, Bri Seagreaves had four digs and Alyse Maurer scored four aces.

“This was the confidence booster we needed as we head into conference play on Thursday night at Watertown and then to Wisconsin Heights on Saturday for their Invitational,” Witt said. “Last year, Monroe took second place at Wisconsin Heights. I hope we have another successful run at that invite.”


Black Hawk 3, Monticello 0

SOUTH WAYNE — Black Hawk continued its unbeaten conference slate with a sweep against Monticello Sept. 25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-17.

Hannah Butler had 22 kills and three digs for Black Hawk, which also got three digs and 12 kills from Bailey Butler. Maddy Huschitt dished out 16 assists while Sydney Delzer led the Warriors with two blocks and Savanna Burmeister notched a pair of aces.

Mackie Errthum led Monticello with five kills and four blocks and Alyssen Noriega finished with 15 digs.


Barneveld 3, Juda 2

BARNEVELD — The Panthers struggled at the service line, missing 13 serves in the first and fifth set, and fell to Barneveld 25-18, 16-25, 25-9, 22-25, 15-10 Sept. 25.

“Juda served 77 percent for the night, but only 55 percent in games one and five,” Panthers coach Scott Anderson said.

Macy Doescher finished with 17 kills for Barneveld while Hannah Powers and Taylor Golackson each had eight kills for Juda.

Montana Steinmann had 17 digs, eight assists and seven aces for the Panthers, which also got six assists from Karlee Kesler and three blocks from Briana Crull.

Marshall 3, New Glarus 0

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights were swept 25-13, 25-18, 25-15.

Alexah Mellenberger led New Glarus with nine kills, two aces and eight digs. Lily Himmleman added two blocks and seven digs for the Knights, which also got two blocks from Lola Gillaspie and Emma Marty and 16 assists from Jada Malaise.


McFarland 3, Brodhead 1

MCFARLAND — The Spartans put the Cardinals in an early hole and came away with a conference win 25-12, 25-17, 14-25, 25-14 Sept. 25.

Abbey Johnson had 14 assists, nine kills and two aces to lead Brodhead. Alexis Oliver had nine kills and three assists, and Katie Goecks finished with five kills, three blocks and an ace and Madisyn Kail dished out 13 assists.


Argyle 3, Pecatonica 0

ARGYLE — The Orioles swept Pecatonica Sept. 25, 25-13, 25-14, 25-10.

Jena Saalsaa led Argyle with 12 kills. Maggie Godfrey finished with 10 kills for the Orioles, which also got 28 assists from Kirsten Ostby, four aces from Grace Ganshert and 11 digs from Jadyn Saalsaa.

Tessa Green led Pecatonica with three kills, seven digs and three assists. Lexi McSherry had an ace and two kills, Samantha Holmstrom finished with a pair of kills, Lily Busser notched eight digs and Sydney Eaton dished out six assists.
