MONROE — The Cheesemakers honored their seven seniors with a game against Waukesha North on Saturday, Dec. 10. Unfortunately, Monroe ended up on the losing end, 4-0.
“You’ve got two captains in seniors Seth [Brandt] and Easton [Dreyfus],” head coach Barry Einbeck said. “There are two very good leaders right there, and that’s what we need. We’ve had a couple game that have been tough recently, but that’s where the senior leadership comes in. They’ve done a nice job of doing that for us.”
Evan Reisinger scored two goals in the first period for the Stars. In the second, Jakob Schowengerdt capitalized on a power-play opportunity, putting Waukesha up 3-0. In the final period, Brock Goral capped the scoring with his own goal.
Dante Desidero stopped all 14 shots on net that he saw. On the other end, Xander Obert recorded 51 saves.
“Xander has been above and beyond what I thought he’d be playing this year,” Einbeck said. “He’s stepped up and played very well. He had 51 saves tonight, and a lot of them were really good. It could have easily been 6-0. He doesn’t have an A or C on his chest, but he’s still leading our team.”
Monroe had a tough time staying out of the penalty box, though, with 24 total minutes on 12 infractions.
“We’ve been on a trend recently,” Einbeck said. “That’s where us coaches and, hopefully, our captains will start reeling the kids back in. We’ve been talking about it, so now we just need to take the next step in making sure the kids stay under control and do the right things. It gets us off our game.”
