MARSHALL — Brodhead saw its season end 56-48 in the opening round of the WIAA Division 3 boys basketball playoffs March 3.

It was a game of Cardinals vs. Cardinals, and the home town rallied in the second half. Tenth-seeded Brodhead (8-15) led by three at the intermission, but No. 7-seed Marshall (16-7) outscored the visitor 32-21 over the final 18 minutes of the game to advance to face Edgerton (18-4), the No. 2 seed.

Connor Green led Brodhead in scoring with 18 points, while Cody Malcook added 16 and Cade Walker four.

Craig Ward finished with 17 for Marshall, with teammates Reid Truschinski (14) and Cole Denniston (13) each reaching double figures. Ward nearly had a triple-double, adding 10 rebounds and eight rebounds. Marshall was 8 of 20 (40%) from beyond the arc and 12 of 14 at the free throw line.


Division 4

New Glarus 88, Brookwood 46

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights opened hot and never reversed course, moving on in the D4 postseason. 

New Glarus (15-8), the No. 5 seed, led 51-24 at halftime over 12th-seeded Brookwood (4-19), then cruised in the second half.

Mason Martinson led all scorers with 25 points for New Glarus. Martinson hit 5 of 6 free throws and buried 10 shots from inside the arc. He had 19 points in the first half.

Nathan Streiff scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half for New Glarus. Garrett James finished with 11 points and Connor Siegenthaler had eight, all scored in the first half — which included two big 3-pointers.

Ten Knights scored in the contest, and all 15 players on the postseason roster saw the court. 

Brookwood had two players in double figures: Kaden Brandau (12) and Alex Martin (10).

The Knights travel to Fennimore (16-6) March 6 in Round 2, with the winner facing either top-ranked Cuba City (22-0) or Boscobel (11-12) for the regional title.

In Division 5 action, Argyle (16-7) came out on top 48-16 over Albany (2-21), while Juda (3-20) lost 71-36 at Central Wisconsin Christian (16-7). Argyle will host Central Wisconsin Christian March 6 in the regional semifinal, with the winner facing either Monticello (21-1) or Black Hawk (10-13) the following night for the regional championship.
