Brodhead clinches Rock Valley
Argyle’s Ganshert has a night to remember vs. Monticello

JEFFERSON — The Brodhead Cardinals clinched its first Rock Valley title since the 2015-16 season with a 50-42 win at Jefferson  Feb. 14. 

The host Eagles led 27-24 at halftime, but the Cardinals rallied in the second half, outscoring their opponent by 11 points. Abbie Dix had 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead Brodhead, while teammate Addie Yates finsihed with 13 points and six boards. Onnikah Oliver hit two 3s and scored 11 points, while Kiarra Moe tallied nine points and six boards.

Riley Madden led Jefferson (15-8, 12-5) with 20 points.

The Cardinals (21-2, 17-0 RVC) face second-place Edgerton (21-2, 15-2) in the regular season finale Feb. 17. 


Argyle 80, Monticello 55

ARGYLE — The Orioles outscored the Ponies by 14 in the first half and continued the offensive onslaught after halftime en route to a Six Rivers East win Feb. 15.

Argyle senior Grace Ganshert, playing in the last conference game of her career, had a night to remember, scoring a career-high 32 points, grabbing 17 rebounds and dishing out five assists. She was also 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Ganshert is averaging 19.1 points per game this season and is just 79 points away from 1,000 in her career.

Also against Monticello, fellow Orioles senior Maggie Godfrey had 18 points and nine rebounds, while Chesney Leigh hit three 3s for nine points.


Lancaster 47, Black Hawk 40

LANCASTER — The Warriors let a 9-point halftime lead slip away in a nonconference game Feb. 14.

The Arrows trailed 30-21 at the break but outscored Black Hawk 26-10 in the second half.

Raylin Peterson had 21 points and eight rebounds for Black Hawk, including three 3s. Tara Wellnitz scored eight points and pulled in nine boards with five assists.

Black Hawk (16-6, 10-1 Six Rivers East) need to beat Pecatonica Feb. 17 in order to clinch at least a share of its sixth straight conference championship. Albany, also 10-1 in conference, faces Juda. The Comets have not won a share of the conference title since 2002.

In other area action on Feb. 15, Shullsburg defeated Pecatonica 60-52 behind 13 points and 19 rebounds from Taylor Russell.
