Breaking: Monroe, Black Hawk girls one win from state

Monroe and Black Hawk's girls basketball teams each won Thursday night, advancing to their respective sectional title games in Division 2 and 5. Full recaps of both the sectional semifinals and sectional final games will be available in the Wednesday, March 6 edition of the Monroe Times.


Monroe 71, DeForest 54

Sydney Hilliard scored 31 points to lead Monroe, while Emily Benzschawel had 23.

The Cheesemakers will play Milton at Oregon High School at 1 p.m. Saturday. Monroe (19-6) swept Milton (11-13) in the regular season by 25 and 23 points. The Cheesemakers are vying for their third straight trip to the state tournament in Green Bay.

Pre-sale tickets for the game will be available Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the District Administration Center at the Monroe Public Library.


Black Hawk 58, River Ridge 27

The unbeaten and top-ranked Warriors throttled the No. 3 team in the state. Black Hawk led 32-11 at halftime.

The Warriors (25-0) will take on Independence (18-4) at 2 p.m. Saturday at La Crosse Central High School. 

Tickets will be available until noon tomorrow at the school.
