POTOSI — After a 41-20 loss to Potosi-Cassville during the regular season, Black Hawk-Warren came into its Level 3 game against the Chieftains with a chip on its shoulder.

“We played like we had something to prove to everyone, which we did,” BHW head coach Desmond Breadon said after his team’s 36-0 win on Nov. 3. “The defense played lights out. It was a complete change from the first game. Andrew Figi was on fire with three picks and almost two more.”

After a 23-yard rushing TD from Lane Marty (27 att, 176 yds, 2 TD) in the first quarter, the Warriors scored twice each in the second and third quarters. Marty tallied his second touchdown just over two minutes into the second quarter, followed by a 38-yard TD pass from Eli Schliem (3-for-3, 59 yds, 1 TD) to Andrew Figi (1 rec, 38 yds, 1 TD) with 56 seconds left in the half.

Four minutes into the third quarter, Owen Seffrood (16 att, 132 yds, 1 TD) scored from 32 yards out. With 25 seconds left in the frame, Riley Mosley (2 att, 7 yds, 1 TD) tallied a 3-yard TD.

Aside from scoring 16 more points than in the first meeting, the Warriors locked in on defense. During the regular season, the Chieftains’ leading rusher, Eli Adams, tallied 116 yards with two TDs. This time, he had just 70 yards. At quarterback, Braden Fishnick slipped from 125 passing yards with 2 TDs to just 36 yards with 3 INT, all caught by Figi.

No. 3 BHW (11-1, 6-1 Six Rivers) advances to Level 4 against No. 1 Reedsville (12-0, 7-0 Big East). The Panthers shut out their last two opponents and were ranked No. 4 in the last WFCA poll.
