SOUTH WAYNE — The top-seeded Warriors blanked Albany (14) in three sets 25-8, 25-7, 25-12 in the opening round of the WIAA Division 4 volleyball playoffs Oct. 16.
Bailey Butler and Maddy Huschitt each had five aces for Black Hawk, which also received 16 kills and two blocks from Hannah Butler and a team-high 11 assists from Huschitt.
In the dominating first set, Hannah Butler had six kills to set the pace and Huschitt had an ace during a 13-point service run.
In the second set, Hannah Butler added another four kills, Huschitt another two aces and Bailey Butler had four aces, two digs and a pair of kills.
Hannah Butler erupted for six kills and two blocks in the third set to close things out while Savannah Burmeister recorded of her four aces in the match.
For Albany, Libby Beck had three kills, six digs and an ace, while Brianna Dahl have five kills and Payton Zurfluh dished out 10 assists.
With the win, Black Hawk was set to play Monticello (6) Thursday night in the second round. The winner plays tonight against either Rio (7) or Burlington Catholic Central (2) at the highest-seed’s home court.
Monticello 3, Faith Christian 0
MONTICELLO — The sixth-seeded Ponies cruised past 11th-seeded Faith Christian Oct. 16 in the Division 4 playoffs 25-14, 25-15, 25-15.
Senior Hannah Zanow had six kills and four aces to lead Monticello. Abby Wicker had seven kills and Sarah Blumer finished with a team-high five aces for the Ponies.
Next up for Monticello was top-seeded Black Hawk, a team that twice swept the Ponies during the regular season.
Cambria-Friesland 3, Juda 0
JUDA — In the battle of the 8-9 seeds, the Panthers could not find the final points at the end of each set and fell 25-22, 26-24, 25-23 Oct. 16.
In the opening set the Panthers fell behind 14-5 but rallied before ultimately ceding the game.
“Cambria-Friesland was simply too tough at the end of the games, holding onto small leads in all three,” Juda head coach Scott Anderson said.
Senior Hannah Powers finished her prep career with eight kills, three blocks and five aces for Juda, which also received six kills from junior Taylor Gollackson, two blocks from senior Briana Crull, 12 assists from senior Karlee Kesler and 28 digs by junior Triniti Elmer.
Argyle 3, Barneveld 0
ARGYLE — Fourth-seeded Argyle moves on in the postseason with a 25-23, 25-10, 25-15 win over Barneveld Oct. 16.
The Orioles advanced to play Fall River (5) Thursday with the winner taking on either Cambria-Friesland (9) or Randolph (1) in the regional final. Fall River knocked off Pecatonica 25-13, 25-13, 25-7.
Senior Jena Saalsaa led Argyle with nine kills and eight aces while Maggie Godfrey had seven kills and two blocks. Kirsten Ostby dished out 25 assists and finished with six aces and five digs for the Orioles, which also received seven kills from Grace Ganshert and 10 digs from Jadyn Saalsaa.
Belleville 3, New Glarus 0
BELLEVILLE — The Glarner Knights saw its season end in the WIAA Division 3 playoffs with a 25-9, 25-12, 25-20 sweep at the hands of the rival Wildcats.
Jade Halvensleben had 12 kills and four digs for Belleville, which also received eight kills and three blocks from Rachael Heittola. Erin Kittleson had a pair of aces and 23 assists for the Wildcats, while Ava Foley (three aces), and Sydney Gentilli (nine digs) also finished with strong contributions.
Lily Himmelmann had five aces, three blocks and six digs to lead New Glarus. Teammate Jada Malaise had 10 assists and Brooke Watrud had six digs.
Belleville hosted Darlington Thursday in the second round. The Redbirds (6) dumped Lancaster (11) in straight sets 25-18, 25-19, 25-14. The winner takes on either Fennimore (7) or Cuba City (2) tonight in the regional final.
