MONROE — Monroe junior Noah Becker is feeling pretty good about his golf game right now.

On April 2 during practice, Becker hit his first career hole-in-one. Three weeks later he took first and third place in back-to-back tournaments.

“He’s on a pretty good run right now,” Monroe golf coach Braden Rindy said.

Becker carded his ace on the 152-yard Par 3 sixth hole at Monroe Golf Club with teammate Connor Allen playing alongside.

“I didn’t know it went in,” Becker said. “I thought it was a good shot. Connor went and looked in the hole, and there it was.”

At the April 22 Sauk Prairie Invite at Lake Wisconsin Country Club, Becker led the 50-player pack with a 4-over-par 74. He shot an even-par 34 on the back nine, which included two birdies.

“At Lake Wisconsin, No. 10, I hit a drive 300 yards, then it started downpouring,” Becker said. He birdied the Par 4.

The next day at the Badger South mini-meet at Nakoma Golf Club in Madison, Becker took third with a six-over 76. Edgewood’s James Gilmore (74) and Karl Gilmore (75) finished 1-2 on the leaderboard. James Gilmore tied for fifth at state a year ago, and Karl Gilmore was tied for 24th.

“It’s encouraging,” Becker said of his recent success. “I just go out there and work on my own game and don’t think of anyone else. I do think I am one of the best in the Badger Conference.

“My game has picked up. People doubt me in my school, and I want to prove them wrong.”

Also at the Lake Wisconsin meet, Monroe’s Jack Rogerson shot an 84, with Allen (98) and Bryce Winters (104) rounding out the scoring. Monroe was fifth out of the 10 teams at the meet, with Verona (337) winning the event.

In the mini-meet in Madison, Rogerson carded an 83, while Allen had an 85 and Winters a 101. Monroe was second (345) as a team, one stroke ahead of Oregon (346) with Edgewood (308) taking the team title.
