LENA - Pitcher Logan Weckerly struggled with his control and Lena came back to beat the Monroe Senior Legion team 6-5 Tuesday.
Weckerly pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up six runs, but only two runs were earned. He walked seven and struck out three.
"It was a little bit of a different strike zone than we have seen," Monroe coach Eric Losenegger said. "Bottom line is he didn't throw many strikes. I told them after that I hope this one stings because we gave them this game."
With the loss, Monroe drops to 5-4, 2-2 in the Stateline League. Monroe got off to a quick start. Chase Hellenbrand doubled, but was thrown out trying to stretch the double to a triple. Garrett Gogin walked and Monroe's Sean Saxby belted a two-run home run to right center for a 2-0 lead.
Saxby, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, also had a two-run double in the third that gave Monroe a 4-2 lead.
Hellenbrand finished 3-for-4. Monroe will play at Evansville today.
"Hopefully, they will come back tomorrow with some hunger and be ready to make some plays," Losenegger said.
