MONROE - Monroe High School graduate Ashley Hermanson was selected as the new Cheesemakers boys tennis coach.

Jeff Newcomer, the interim athletic director at Monroe High School, made the announcement in a press release Tuesday.

"Coach Hermanson has been phenomenal. She is a young coach who cares," Newcomer said. "I am excited to keep Ashley on staff and look forward to her influence on our student-athletes all year-round."

Hermanson, a 2010 MHS graduate, served as an assistant coach for the Monroe girls tennis team in the fall. She currently is the Monroe girls freshman basketball coach. Hermanson takes over for former coach Brad Saugstad.

Hermanson was a standout prep basketball and tennis player. She qualified for the WIAA Division 1 state tennis tournament at No. 1 doubles with Kelsey Erickson in the fall of 2009. Hermanson and Erickson made a run to the third round at state and finished the season 26-3.
