SHULLSBURG - There's a first time for everything.
Monticello (2-13 overall) took its time on the offensive end and built a 30-10 halftime lead over Shullsburg (4-10) Monday and held on for a 39-27 road victory.
"We moved the ball really well and we took the open shot," Ponies head coach Heath Eliason said. "For the first time all year, the open shot went in."
Ponies sophomore Sadi Hilliard had seven first-quarter points to open the first-half floodgates and her older sister, senior MacKenzie Hilliard, matched her sibling's effort in the second quarter. The elder athlete finished with a game-high 15 points, while Sadi added 11.
ARGYLE 47, JUDA 27
With two minutes left in the first quarter, Juda head Curt Brown didn't know what to do.
Argyle (9-7 overall, 3-6 Six Rivers East) came out firing and the Panthers (3-11, 1-7) had no recourse for a 22-3 first quarter that the Orioles built upon for a victory in Juda.
"It was over in the first six minutes," Brown said. "That just can't happen."
Amber Thomas and Chelsey Zersen had six points apiece in the first quarter. Zersen finished with 10 to lead Argyle. Juda sophomore Rachel Bartels had a game-high 11 in the loss.
