MONROE - The Monroe Avalanche youth hockey program has four teams representing the region at state tournaments, which will be held in March. Teams advancing to the state tournaments are Bantam A, Bantam B, PeeWee A and Squirt B.
PeeWee A
The PeeWee A state-bound and Region 4 champions were seeded No. 1 going into play-downs. The Avalanche defeated the Sauk Prairie PeeWee A team 10-3. Tessa Janecke and Hayden Roth each earned hat tricks. Also scoring for the Avalanche were Alvin Buholzer, Alyssa Knauf and Blaze Janecke. Earning assists on the goals were Roth (2), Tessa Janecke (2), Roman Bauer, Knauf and Buholzer (2). The Avalanche outshot Sauk Prairie 60-12.
On Sunday, the PeeWee team lost to Wisconsin Dells-Reedsburg 45-12. Roth earned a hat trick while Knauf and Sarah Edler earned assists. Bauer, assisted by Rob Schroeder, fired one in from the blue line. Tessa Janecke scored the last Avalanche goal on an assist by Schroeder. The Avalanche held a 45-12 advantage in shots.
The Avalanche PeeWee A team advances to the state tournament to be held in Baldwin March 12-13.
Bantam A
In the first round of play-downs, the Bantam A team dominated Baraboo A 5-0. Travis Edmunds earned a hat trick while Roth added two goals. Earning assists were Cade Janecke, Broc Kuberski, Payton Stauffacher and Anika Einbeck.
In the second game, the Bantam A team faced a tough Sauk Prairie team and lost 5-0.
The Avalanche Bantam A advances to the state tournament in Sheboygan March 5-6 with the wild card spot.
Squirt B
Seeded first in its bracket, the Squirt B team dominated Wisconsin Dells 13-0 its first play-down game. The Squirt B lost 5-2 to Sauk in the final play-down game.
The Avalanche Squirt B are state-bound and Region 4 3B champions. Monroe will play in Amery in the Squirt State Tournament March 5-6.
PeeWee A
