NEW GLARUS - Jeff Eichelkraut will return to the field this fall as the head coach for New Glarus-Monticello football coach.

Eichelkraut previously served as NG-M head football coach from 1999-2011. He stepped down when he was named principal of New Glarus High School in order to focus on his new position with the district.

Eichelkraut will replace Desie Breadon, who resigned after the 2015 season, New Glarus District Administrator Jennifer Thayer said. The position was posted and Eichelkraut was the only applicant. The school board approved the hire in December.

During Eichelkraut's previous tenure as head coach, the Glarner Knights had an overall record of 65-57, won four conference championships (2001, 2002, 2005, 2009), and qualified for the WIAA playoffs eight times (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010). The team won postseason games in 2002 and 2010.

In addition, in 2002, Eichelkraut was named the Region 18 Coach of the Year and in 2011 he was selected to coach in the 2011 WFCA All Star Game at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

"We are very fortunate to have Mr. Eichelkraut returning to the football field to lead the NGM team," Thayer said. "He was a successful football coach in the past, but more than that, he believes in incorporating a strong character education component that helps our students both on and off the field."
