Dillon's five hits launch Cheesemakers

MILTON - Senior Natalie Dillon was a thorn in Milton's side Monday during the Monroe High School softball team's 15-5, six-inning victory.

Batting leadoff, Dillon went 5-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI. Two of her hits were bunt singles.

Senior Brooke Adams went 3-for-5, including a bunt hit.

"Natalie is tough to deal with when she gets on base because she can steal bases," Monroe coach Dale Buvid said. "When they (Dillon and Adams) get on base they can use their speed."

Sophomore Alysha Witt singled to right in the Cheesemakers' four-run fourth inning but wound up on third base when the Red Hawks' right fielder misplayed the ball, Buvid said.

Witt scored after a wild pickoff throw to first base. Dillon delivered an RBI single to center and Adams came through with a two-run single to center that gave the Cheesemakers a 7-2 lead.

"They (Milton) had a couple of errors, and we took control from there," Buvid said.

The Cheesemakers scored five runs in the fifth. Dillon had a two-run double, and senior Hannah Vetterli delivered a two-run single. Junior Lexi Hilliard had an RBI single.

Dillon pitched four innings and gave up just two earned runs on five hits to get the win. She struck out eight and walked two.

Monroe junior Carly Upmann pitched two innings in relief and allowed three runs on five hits. She struck out three and walked one.

Monroe (9-5, 3-2 Badger South) will host Milton at Twining Park today.
