Darlington shines at Deerfield

DEERFIELD - Darlington took second in both the girls and boys divisions at the Deerfield Classic Friday.

Alex Erickson won three individual events for the Redbirds, taking home top honors in the boys 200-meter dash (23.72), 400-meter dash (51.65 seconds) and long jump (20-feet, 1 inch).

Teammate Braden Zywicki won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.67 seconds and Bruce King was third in the high jump (5-10).

Darlington also won the boys 400-meter relay (46.03 seconds) and was second in the 800 relay (1:37.38).

Sugar River's Colton Crye was second in the boys discus (136-08). The Raiders's boys 3,200-meter relay team (8:20.23) broke the meet record by nearly six seconds, but still managed to finish second to Lomira (8:17.50).

Dennis Haak was third in the 800 (2:05.76) for the Raiders, and teammate Brian Anderson was third in the 300 hurdles (43.25).

On the girls side, Darlington freshman Cheyenne Wolfe won the 3,200 with a time of 12:33.63. Albany's Rosy Bauman was third (12:53.45). Kara Krahenbuhl won the pole vault for the Redbirds (9-feet) and teammate Chelsea Fortin was third (8-6).

Rachel Miller was third in the 800 for Sugar River, finishing with a time of 2:33.78. Albany's Jessica Mauerman was fourth (2:36.06) and Darlington's Amy Jorgenson was fifth (2:38.17).

Sugar River's Alison Schmitz was third in the 1,600 (5:50.3) and teammate Ashley Brusveen also took third in the high jump (5 feet).

Darlington's 400 relay team took second (55.1). Sugar River (10:33.36) edged Darlington (10:52.47) in the 3,200 relay.

Overall, Omro won the girls meet with 116 team points. Darlington's 94 were enough for second. Sugar River (55.33) finished seventh as a team and Albany (16.33) was 13th out of 16 teams.

On the boys side, Lake Mills (96) held off Darlington (92.5) for the team title. Sugar River (50) finished sixth and Albany (16) was 14th of 17 teams.
