Darlington, New Glarus knocked out

CUBA CITY - The No. 1 seed and top-ranked Cuba City scored on the opening tip and never trailed in a 79-35 win Tuesday over the eighth-seeded Darlington Redbirds, staying unbeaten at 23-0.

The Cubans took a 23-11 lead after the first quarter and increased the lead to 25 points at halftime at 43-18.

Emily Kaiser, who was one of three players in double figures for Cuba City, lead the team with 14 points.

Senior Ashley Martin came off the bench and led all scorers with 24 points for Darlington (8-15). Cuba City, the defending Division 3 state runner-up, advances to the regional semifinal Thursday against Lancaster.

Belleville 56, New Glarus 31

BELLEVILLE - Second-seeded Belleville, ranked fifth in Division 3 according to the Associated Press, got 24 points from Quinn Rear to roll past the seventh-seeded Glarner Knights Tuesday, 56-31.

The Wildcats took a 26-17 halftime lead and used a 21-7 advantage in the third quarter to take a commanding 47-24 lead in the second half.

Senior Michelle Preston scored 12 points and senior Tanya Gruter added nine points for New Glarus (8-15).

Belleville (22-1) meets Orfordville Parkview in the Division 3 regional semifinal game Thursday.
