Cheese win season opener

MOUNT HOREB - Monroe's baseball team won its first game of the 2010 season Saturday, 15-9, over the Vikings.

The Cheesemakers scored three runs in the top of the first, then rattled off two runs each in the third and the fourth innings to keep pace with the Mount Horeb at 7-7.

A five-run fifth put Monroe up for good.

Matt Whipple had three hits and two doubles, for the Cheesemakers, with teammates Dylan Schwitz, Justin Rackow and Taylor Riese each collecting a pair of hits. Schwitz tripled and both Rackow and Riese had two-baggers. Monroe also out-hit Mount Horeb, 13-9.

Logan Wells, Cory Kundert and Kramer Henning split time on the mound for the Cheesemakers, collecting eight combined strikeouts. Monroe also struck out eight times and had three errors in the outfield.
