FORT ATKINSON - After uncooperative weather caused a long layoff, the Monroe girls tennis team had an immediate turnaround, having to play a second meet in as many days.
The Cheesemakers lost to Milton 5-2 Tuesday after an elongated stretch between meets, but they got back into the swing of things Wednesday with a 5-2 road win over Fort Atkinson.
Monroe's top two singles teams won, and the Cheesemakers swept three doubles matches.
At No. 1 singles Monroe senior Macayla Quinn defeated Sarah Weaver 7-5, 6-7, 10-3. At No. 2 singles, junior Alisa Fager defeated Fort Atkinson's Paula Lopez 6-7, 6-1, 12-10.
Monroe's only two losses came at No. 3 singles where junior Sarah Wong fell to Fort Atkinson's Houston Foelker 5-7, 6-3, 8-10 and at No. 4 singles where junior Sarah Sabatke lost to Patricia Samara 6-4, 5-7, 11-13.
At. No. 1 doubles, juniors Ellie Grossen and Chandra McGuire defeated Fort Atkinson's Katie McCarthy and Sarah Johnson 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, junior Allie Coplien and sophomore Chelsea Miller beat Josie Lange and Brittany Sykes 6-0, 6-4. At No. 3 doubles, Monroe's sophomore duo of Erin Gellings and Paige Prien defeated Michaela Powers and Mariah Gorman 6-3, 6-1.
