CAMBRIDGE - The Brodhead-Juda wrestling team posted five pins en route to a 54-18 dual meet win over Cambridge on Friday.

Brodhead-Juda's Jordan Schubert at 152 pounds pinned Cambridge's Jeremiah Smith in 1 minute, 36 seconds. Senior Hunter Colden (170) pinned Jared Kenseth in 3:46 and sophomore Gavin Baade (182) pinned Walter Kazmer in 1:10. At 220, sophomore Reave Lincoln pinned Kyle Daly in 54 seconds and junior Jordan Kraak (138) pinned Tanner Lund in 1:05.

The Cardinals also got wins from Brady Colden (160), Logan Maurer (heavyweight), Dylan Kubly (132) and Jacob Rhyner (113) due to forfeits.

Sugar River sophomore Kody Popenfus (113) won his first two matches at the Mid-States Classic tournament and is in contention for a medal.

Popenfus pinned Clinton's Trent Kleyn in 47 seconds and then defeated Elkhorn's Bryce Fitzgerald 6-2.



MID-STATE CLASSIC

WHITEWATER - Sugar River's Jacob Larson (160) went 3-1 the first day of the tournament Friday. Larson pinned Wausau East's Marcus Josiger in 1:15 in the preliminaries. Freeport's Justice Reed pinned him in 3:10. Larson bounced back and pinned Csaba Petyko in 1:21 and then received a forfeit.

Young-Chul Vetterli (152) went 2-1 on the first day of the tournament. He lost a nail-biter 8-6 to Downers Grove's Thomas Nimakoh. He rebounded and defeated Milwaukee Riverside's Brandon McKenzie in a technical fall 17-1. Vetterli then edged Elkhorn's Brett Phillips 6-5 in a consolation match.

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Lucas McKeon (195) is 2-0 after pinning Milwaukee Riverside's Travis Evans in 1:25 and pinning Brookwood's Chris Westerman in 3:59. Senior Nick Gilbertson (220), after a first-round bye, pinned Downers Grove's Robert Barry in 3:59.

Tristan Rosenstiel (152) finished 2-1 the first day of the tournament. Rosenstiel pinned Clinton's Jake Collins in 2:45 and then lost 5-2 to Orfordville's Brandon Neal. He rebounded to pin Jefferson's Mac Renz in 37 seconds in a consolation match.
