MONROE - Argyle senior Ashley Bruehlman was named the Six Rivers East Conference Player of the Year for her volleyball performance this season.
Bruehlman racked up 198 kills, 186 digs, 64 aces and 24 blocks to lead the Orioles to their third consecutive conference championship. She averaged 12 kills and 9.8 digs per match as the Orioles ran to a WIAA Division 4 regional championship where they lost to Catholic Central, 25-14, 25-22, 25-21.
"I feel very blessed to receive these awards," Bruehlman said. "Knowing that I have the coaches supporting me and behind me, it's just an honor."
Bruehlman was named first-team all-conference as a middle hitter, as was junior teammate Jena Saalsaa. It marks the second straight year a player from Argyle was named the conference's player of the year. Kayla Butler-Paulson earned the player of the year award last season.
"She (Butler-Paulson) was a great setter for us," Bruehlman said. "I think it (having two players receive player of the year awards in back-to-back years) really speaks volumes about what we have going here."
Bruehlman, who will play volleyball next year for Division II Minnesota State University, Mankato, is excited about playing at the next level. She will sign her National Letter of Intent Wednesday.
"I'm really looking forward to it," she said. "I'm so excited. I'm going to be playing club volleyball this winter (with Wisconsin Select of Madison) to get the coaching I need and to refine my skills."
The other first-team all-conference selections included Black Hawk freshman Bailey Butler, Black Hawk sophomore Hannah Butler, Juda senior MacKenzie Byrne and Barneveld senior Taryn Pickarts.
Argyle coach Jen Butler isn't surprised Bruehlman was named the conference's player of the year.
"Ashley definitely deserves the award," Butler said. "It was her goal from the beginning of the year. It's something she has pushed hard for. She has worked hard and puts her love for the game into the offseason."
Argyle junior Jadyn Saalsaa was named second-team all-conference. Albany junior Libby Beck, Juda senior Hailey Kammerer, Monticello junior Abby Wicker, Pecatonica senior Taetum Pagel and Barneveld senior Courtney Skaife also received second-team honors.
The three who received honorable mention accolades from the Orioles are senior Dorissa DeNure and junior Kirsten Ostby. The Warriors had two honorable mention all-conference players - senior Hannah Herbst and junior Sydney Delzer.
Monticello junior Hannah Zanow and senior teammate Alya Hummel were named honorable mention all-conference. The other honorable mention selections included Albany senior Hailey Stefanik, Pecatonica senior Hannah Kittleson and Barneveld senior Kennedy Barsness.
