BELOIT - It didn't take Brodhead-Juda long to bounce back from its first loss last week.
The Cardinals racked up 376 total rushing yards and steamrolled Beloit Turner 49-0 Friday, Sept. 13.
Brodhead-Juda senior Derek Turner rushed for 116 yards and scored two touchdowns.
"He (Turner) was a workhorse tonight," Brodhead-Juda coach B.J. Bockhop said.
The Cardinals' defense was just as dominant as the offense, limiting Beloit Turner to just 107 total yards.
Bockhop liked the way the Cardinals responded as they improved to 3-1, 1-0 Rock Valley South.
"We came out and had an attitude all week," Bockhop said. "That first loss didn't sit well with us all week. We came out and responded well."
New Glarus-Monticello 48, Westfield 20
WESTFIELD - New Glarus-Monticello senior Jim Chenoweth rushed for 230 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Glarner Knights to their first win 48-20 over Westfield.
New Glarus-Monticello coach Desie Breadon said it wasn't a must-win game even though the Knights (1-3) entered the game without a win.
"We knew we had the ability," Breadon said. "No one was picking us to win. We felt like all the pressure was on them. We wanted to send a message to other teams that we are better than our record."
New Glarus-Monticello senior Casey Severson rushed for more than 100 yards and Gavin Binger also had a big game on the ground as the Knights racked up 467 total rushing yards.
"We said let's get back to our game of running and pounding the ball," Breadon said. "It feels good going into conference with some momentum."
Evansville-Albany 31, McFarland 14
MCFARLAND - Albany senior Isaiah Shell caught five passes for 172 yards and scored four touchdowns to propel Evansville-Albany to a 31-14 win over McFarland.
Shell also had a 65-yard TD run that was wiped out by a penalty. Evansville-Albany quarterback Matt Sperry was 5 of 8 passing for 172 yards and four touchdowns. Teammate Ryan Cashore rushed for 74 yards on 15 carries.
The Blue Devils (2-2, 1-1 Rock Valley North) had 403 total yards en route to the win.
Darlington 53, Fennimore 12
DARLINGTON - The Redbirds used a dominant running game to roll past Fennimore 53-12 in a SWAL clash.
Darlington senior Tanner Wiegel rushed for 140 yards on six carries with two touchdowns and junior Myles Leahy had 123 yards on 11 carries and scored two touchdowns.
The Redbirds gashed the Eagles for 337 total rushing yards. With the win, Darlington improved to 3-1, 2-0 SWAL. Leahy opened the scoring with a 24-yard TD run early in the first quarter. Wiegel then had a 43-yard TD run late in the first quarter to give the Redbirds a 14-7 lead. He then raced for an 80-yard TD run midway through the second quarter to give the Redbirds a 20-7 lead. Leahy added a 27-yard TD run and Jason Singer had a 4-yard TD run in the second quarter. The Redbirds capped the second quarter with Kane Loken's 47-yard interception return for a touchdown to give the Redbirds a 46-6 lead at the half.
The Redbirds had three interceptions on defense. Darlington's Kyle Johnson also came through with a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Pec-Argyle 39, DeSoto 13
BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica-Argyle senior Tyler Henneman rushed for 171 yards to carry the Vikings to a 39-13 win over DeSoto.
Henneman scored one touchdown and Pecatonica-Argyle junior Drew Schliem tossed one touchdown. Schliem was 3 of 13 passing for 84 yards. Pecatonica-Argyle senior Alec Treuthardt had two receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown.
The Vikings' defense forced three turnovers (two fumbles and one interception). With the win, Pecatonica-Argyle improves to 4-0.
