Darlington senior Ethan Pickett goes up for a shot during the Redbirds 53-37 win over Iowa-Grant.
DARLINGTON - Ethan Pickett scored 17 points and Alex Erickson added 13 for the Redbirds, who beat Iowa-Grant 53-37 on Tuesday.

Darlington took a 14-3 lead after the first quarter and pushed the difference to 27-11 by halftime.

"We played pretty good defense," Redbirds head coach Michael Hopkins said. "We put their best player on the bench with foul trouble, and that helped out a lot."

Darlington started the season 1-5, but has since won 8 of their last 11 games.

"We're a whole different ball club right now. We're getting big contributions from everyone," Hopkins said.

Darlington (9-8, 6-5 SWAL) is now tied for third in conference and travels to Riverdale (2-13, 1-10) on Friday.

Wisconsin Heights 49,

New Glarus 41

BLACK EARTH - The Glarner Knights took a step backwards on Tuesday, falling to Capitol South rival Wisconsin Heights.

Jake Bast scored 14 points for New Glarus, but Rory Cotter's 23 for the Vanguards was too much for the Glarner Knights.

Both teams finished the first quarter tied 11-11, and Wisconsin Heights took a 27-21 lead at halftime.

New Glarus cut the lead to five in the third quarter, but the Vanguards finished from there.

New Glarus, currently ranked 13th in the WisSports.net Coaches Poll, falls to 12-3 on the season and into third place at 4-2 in conference. Marshall (13-3, 6-1) leads the conference race and Cambridge (8-6, 5-1) is sitting in second.

Brodhead (10-6, 7-5 Rock Valley South) still leads Beloit Turner (8-8, 6-6) by one game for the conference lead.

The Cardinals travel to Orfordville Parkview (6-10, 4-8) on Thursday in hopes of inching closer to a conference title.
