Argyle upends Benton, BH smothers Pecatonica

BENTON - Argyle girls basketball coach Kurt Ritschard made a change on the press and the Orioles flipped a five-point halftime deficit and ran away in the second half with a 56-46 win over Benton Tuesday.

"We switched Kristen (Ostby) to the top of the press and we let her go to work on their point guard," Ritschard said. "She had a lot of really good steals and we were able to score in transition."

Ostby limited Benton point guard Maggie Dougherty to just 4 points in the second half.

Benton's Emma Lawrence scored a game-high 21 points and Dougherty added 18.

"We kind of made them one-dimensional scoring with just Lawrence," Ritschard said. She is a great athlete."

Argyle junior Jena Saalsaa scored a team-high 20 points and Ostby scored 13 of her 18 points in the second half. Saalsaa made 6 of 6 free throws down the stretch for the Orioles (11-1, 5-1 Six Rivers East).

"She really iced it for us," Ritschard said of Saalsaa.



Black Hawk 88, Pecatonica 6

BLANCHARDVILLE - Black Hawk sophomore Natalie Leuzinger scored a game-high 19 points and had seven steals to help the Warriors cruise past Pecatonica Tuesday.

Black Hawk (14-0, 6-0 Six Rivers East) raced out to a 57-2 lead at the half.

Black Hawk freshman Bailey Butler added 16 points and sophomore Hannah Butler pitched in 13. Senior teammate Hannah Herbst had 8 points, seven assists and six steals. Black Hawk's Abby Argall and Cheyenne Stewart each chipped in 8 points.



Cuba City 58, Darlington 53

CUBA CITY - Sophomore Kiera Holzemer scored a game-high 21 points to propel the Cubans to a win over Darlington in a Southwest Wisconsin Activities League showdown.

With the win, Cuba City (10-2, 6-0 SWAL) takes over sole possession of first in the league ahead of Darlington (8-4, 5-1).

Darlington junior Kaylee Meyers scored a team-high 18 points. Junior Kathleen Mathias added 12.
