MONROE - Taking a glance at the all-conference softball selections recently announced for the Badger South Conference, you might think for a moment that you were looking at Monroe's roster. After winning the conference championship for a second consecutive season, the Cheesemakers filled five of the 12 spots on the first-team selections.
Seniors Chandra McGuire (infield) and Taylor O'Leksy (outfield), along with sophomore Natalie Dillon (pitcher) were voted as unanimous selections by the coaches within the conference. Joining McGuire as a first-team infield selection was fellow senior Kayla Updike. The other first-team selection for the Cheesemakers was senior Kirsten Vetterli, who was designated as a utility player.
Second-team selections included senior Ellyn Grossen at infield and sophomore Hannah Vetterli at catcher. The Cheesemakers also had two honorable mention selections in senior Katie Holmes and junior Kari Jordan.
Monroe ended with a 24-4 overall record and swept Milton in a doubleheader to end the regular season and to capture the conference championship. The Cheesemakers lost to River Valley in a heartbreaking 2-1 decision in their regional final.
