MONROE — The Mark Mueller Scholarship Fund will hold its second annual Punt, Throw, Kick Competition on Super Bowl Sunday. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13 at Twining Park.
The event is open to competitors — and spectators — of all ages. There is a $20 entry fee, with all proceeds going to the scholarship fund, which is available to Monroe High School students in honor of the 2001 MHS grad that died unexpectedly in 2003. More than one attempt can be made for another donation. Cash and check donates are accepted, as well a Venmo to @Jim-Curran-1
Funds from last year’s event raised money to give out seven scholarships to 2021 Monroe graduates.
Competitor categories include groups ages 0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-34 and 35-plus. Everyone 0-10 will receive a mini football, while top three will get a trophy. In the 6-10 and 11-15 groups, there is also a $100 Monroe Youth Sports scholarship to be given to the winner, and Dicks Sporting Good gift certificate available. Ages 16-34 has gift certificates up for grabs, and a trophy and two Badger men’s basketball tickets to the winner. The 35-plus bracket is giving away three Crook & Marker cases, as well as a trophy and Monroe Country Club golf outing for four.
Competition is based on performance: Net distance added for each category — a pass, a kickoff and a punt.
