15-year-old baseball team tops Palmyra in tournament

COLUMBUS - The Monroe 15-year-old baseball team defeated Palmyra 16-11 Friday in Columbus to advance to the quarterfinals in the VFW Teener League tournament.

The Cheesemakers capped their season at 9-4 for second place overall in the VFW Teener League's west division, earning a No. 2 seed in the 12-team tournament.

Monroe will play No. 2 seed Waterloo at 10 a.m. today at Fireman's Park in Columbus.

If the Cheesemakers win, they will play in the final at 4 p.m. Sunday at the park.
