Susan Anne Boelke

Our mother, Susan Anne Boelke, of Monroe, WI passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 91 years of age. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, our father, Gerald Allen Boelke and will now join him in eternal rest at Memory Gardens Cemetery, in Arlington Heights, IL. Sue was born in Dayton, Ohio on September 8, 1931 to Basil and Gretchen Barrett. In her early years she lived in Wilmette, IL and attended New Trier High School, graduating in 1949. Mom and Dad met at Monmouth College, in Monmouth, IL where Sue was an active member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Jerry and Sue were married in 1952, and spent their first couple years together in Florida where Dad was stationed in the Air Force and Mom cared for two young children, Ross and Sandra. Curtis arrived 11 years later to keep the couple very busy. In addition to being a faithful mother and homemaker, Sue was also driven by a desire to make a difference. She attended college at night and on weekends to get her Master’s Degree in Education and a teaching certificate. Sue made a lasting impact in the lives of countless young boys and girls forover 20 years as a kindergarten and special education teacher. Mom and Dad had a fondness for their vacation properties and spent a lot of time over the years at “The Farm”, “The Ranch,”and “The Michigan Homestead”. They also worked on renovation projects like “The Westfield Store” and “The Adams-Friendship Bungalow”. Sue was the unquestioned master of details, notes, and records! And she was fastidious about keeping complete instructions and notes so that the rest of us could follow her logic. To the end, she kept a loving maternal eye on all the husbands, wives, sons, daughters, and grandkids regardless of where they were and what part of the family they belonged to. She was loved and will be greatly missed by many extended family members and friends, beginning with her brother Dennis and her late sister Nancy and especially by us, the kids of Sue and Jerry – Ross (Samantha), Sandra, and Curtis (Donna). Grandchildren - Karrie (Jamie), Jack (Machkalia), Jeff, Kelli, Max, and Jaxon. Great Grandchildren - Tyler (Heidi), Bailey (Kaden), Addison, Audrey, Stella, Mason, Monica, Teagan, and Jaxson. Great-Great Grandchildren - Peter, Piper, and Carsen Jo. A memorial service for Sue will be held in Monroe, WI, Sue and Jerry’s longtime home. A Memorial service will be held for Susan Boelke on Saturday, May 20th at the Union Presbyterian Church, 11:00 a.m., luncheon to follow, 2707 5th Street, Monroe, WI 53566.
