Ruth L. Signer, age 96, of Monroe, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Aster Assisted Living. She was born in Monroe, Wisconsin on June 7, 1923 the daughter of Orson A. Wells and Lillie (Lehman) Wells. She attended Grove, Cadiz, and Franklyn grade schools and graduated from Monroe High School in 1942. On June 7, 1942 she was united in marriage to Joseph B. Signer at East Wiota Church. They farmed in Monroe, Albany, and Evansville areas before purchasing their farm west of Monroe in 1953. They retired from farming 1979 and moved to Monroe. She was a lifelong member of the Jordan Lutheran Church, The Ladies Guild, taught Sunday School several years, was a member of the Quilters Club, the Antique Car Club and the Moose Lodge, #599. For several years she worked seasonally at Swiss Colony and 21 years at Color Putty Company.

She enjoyed worked with her husband on the farm and doing church work. She also enjoyed folk art painting, music, and emailing friends and family. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her daughter-in-law, Christine Signer, Fort Atkinson; granddaughters: Brenda Signer of Rockford, Susan Signer of Freeport, Nicole Signer of Madison, and Samantha Signer of Milton; grandson, Joseph Signer of Milton; great-grandchildren, Markus Signer, Desiree Jackson, and DJ Erving great-great-grandchildren, Markus Signer, Jr., Braylen Signer, and December Lillian Allan; sisters-in-law, Frances Wells and Louise Wells; brother-in-law, Herbert (Mattie) Signer.

Preceding her in death were her father in 1972, her mother in 1977, her husband in 1981, her son, Larry Signer in 2007, a nephew, Jeffrey Wells in 1983, a niece, Sharon Priewe in 2006, her sister, Evelyn Kubly Jacobs in 2012, brothers, Howard Wells in 2008 and O. Emerson Wells in 2012.

Private family services will be held at Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will take place in Kelly Cemetery. A public Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Jordan Lutheran Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
