Rosa Elizabeth Ammon, age 97, of Monroe was called home to eternal peace with her Savior on Wednesday, January 27, at St Clare Friedensheim.

Rosa was the daughter of Ernst and Maria (Mueller) Ammon Sr, born on October 14, 1923 in Herzogenbuchsee, Canton Bern, Switzerland. She came across on the Atlantic Ocean in 1929, celebrating her 6th birthday on the ship. After passing through Ellis Island, her family settled in Winslow, IL and later moved to Green County, WI. She worked at the Swiss Cheese Shop giving speeches on how to make Swiss cheese

She was an excellent seamstress making all her nieces traditional Canton Bern, Swiss Costumes. She found pleasure in her nieces & nephews, great nieces & great nephews who enjoyed her Lebkuchen cookies and sharing her Swiss/German heritage. They were her children. She loved gardening through her early 90’s and the asparagus patch was her pride and joy.

Rosa was a member of St John‘s UCC and Turner Hall New World Swiss Club. She enjoyed singing in both choirs.

She is survived by her sister, Marie Ammon Laeser and (see below) nieces & nephews: Joan Laeser, Fritz Laeser, Ernest (Cathie) Laeser, Anita (Scott) Sponholz), Heidi (Roger) Masarik, Peter (Cherie) Ammon, Christian (Shelly) Ammon, Liz Ammon (Robert Chapman); many great nieces and nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ernest & his wife Alice, brother-in- law Frederick Laeser Sr, niece Jeanne Ammon, great nephew Jason Laeser & step great great nephew Kylon Benson.

Private funeral services will be held Monday, February 1, 2021 at St. John's United Church of Christ with Rev. Christie Mandas officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A celebration of Rosa’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent in Rosa‘s name and to St John‘s UCC, Turner Hall-NWSC or St Clare Friedenscheim.

The Family wishes to thank her ICU nurses & doctors; the nurses on first floor at the Monroe Clinic Hospital & especially the staff at St Clare Friedensheim which made her feel welcomed.
